SNAPP mask?

Post by gracie97 » Sat Jul 02, 2005 2:56 am

Any user opinions on the Tiara SNAPP mask?

Looks like it would be comfortable except for, perhaps, those two swivels on either side of face...

I've recently tried a Nasal Aire II and an FP Infinity. Neither of these seems very stable if you roll around in bed at all. I'm very interested to hear what users think of Tiara Snapp.

I have a SNAPP and I like it just as well as the Swift, they and the NAII are my favorites. The Swift and SNAPP are quite similar. I get a better seal on the SNAPP as I am a side sleeper. I also like the fact you can put the hose upward and clip it to the top of the headgear or have it downward. Overall I am very pleased and it comes with different sizes of prongs so you do not have to guess and get the incorrect size.

I too have an Infinity and I had such high hopes for it and it is basically useless, impossible to seal, the weight of the hose pulls it out of your nose, regardless of where you place the hose, a very poor design that could not have bee tested

I have had several patients choose the Snapp, in fact I just set someone up on one last week. I prefer it to the Nasal Aire because I think the plastic is nice and soft, and the last few NAs I have opened have just not stayed together. The Snapp, although I have not tried it with pressure or laying down, is very non-instrusive on the face and to me actually feels very loose. My patients really like that. And unlike the NA, it doesn't go all the way up the nostril, which is a bonus. One problem I have heard about it is that it is loud. I think the piece just below the pillows is very wide and allows too much turbulent flow. But aside from that, everyone I have had try it has been very happy with it.

I didn't have as much success with the SNAPP, but I am not sure that it wasn't because the fit was difficult because my nares are of different sizes. The left side was a great fit but the right hurt and eventually made me feel like someone was stabbing me with a needle. I am still not sure if it was too tight or too loose. It could be that I would have eventually been able to adjust to the feel by toughing up my nose but I went with another mask instead. I must say that what attracted me to the SNAPP was the limited facial contact. I liked it best because it was the lightest, had minimal headgear and was versatile as far as being able to wear it so the hose fastens over the head or rests on the chest.

Now I am using a Respironics Comfortlite. The headgear is stiff and I didn't think that I would like that but it is fairly stable and stands up to my back to side to back restlessness. I am not using my SNAPP right now but I may try it off and on to see if I can adjust to it.

By the way, I wasn't given any other prongs just the one that was first fitted on me. A variety might have helped me find something that worked better.

Thanks for the feedback on the SNAPP.

Do you think it is noisy? How does it compare to the NA II for noise?

And how about those things that appear to be ball joints on the side of the face that allow the tubes to swivel up above head: Are those at all uncomfortable on your cheek when laying on your side?

(I'm OK with my current Breeze but really want an interface that will allow reading in bed!)

I found the Snapp to be uncomfortable because of those side things on the cheek. I much prefer the Breeze.

Well now-- my supposed quote of your last posting was a complete failure. It just captured my dialogue. I sure guessed wrong about how it works! Sorry about that!

I'm about to get my first CPAP and went to the sleep lab today just to try on a variety of masks, before the DME comes.

I hadn't heard of the SNAPP, but it was the first one the tech there recommended (this is the sleep center at Mt. Sinai hosp, NY) and the one I think I liked best. I used it only 10 minutes at pressure and laying down, so it's hard to be sure how it will feel in regular use.

Any other thoughts on this mask before I commit?

My alternative is probably the Activa.
