Lower pressure on SleepStyle 600

Post by WildON » Tue May 27, 2008 1:18 pm

I have a Sleep Style 600 byFisher & Paykel Healthcare. My problem is that since the last time my doctor upped the pressure I have not been able to use the CPAP. I have decided not to use the doctor and to seek out a new practice but I would like to lower the pressure on my machine. How do I get into program mode. I need to go back to when I could use it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Why can't use your machine with a higher pressure?

This will Sound Funny but....

Post by WildON » Tue May 27, 2008 4:00 pm

This will sound weird but after I finally get to sleep and relaxed, the pressure will blow past my throat and will make my lips blow like I'm doing the Rasberries. This causes me to wake up and I wasn't getting any sleep. My sleep is better without the machine now but I would like to go back to the 9PSI where I felt I was getting some help. I have given up on my Doctor/Practice and will need to find another here in Columbus Ohio.

Not weird at all except that even at the lower pressure you ar most likely leaking enough pressure that you are not getting much in the way of therapy out of you efforts. You either need a full face mask that covers yopur mouth and nose or some way to seal your lips. A chin strap works for some people but I have never had much luck with it. Tapeing your lips closed or glueing them closed with Poly Grip strips is the best way.

The full face mask is a very good option.

I too live in Columbus, OH and tomorrow I am going to a new sleep doctor that I heard about on this forum. I will let you no how I like him. I didn't like my first sleep doctor either or my DME. This one is sleep lab sleep doctor and DME all in one.

That is where I ran into problems with my DME and sleep doc. Although they did Not require me to use them as a DME, I figured it would be easier to just do it. I was totally wrong about that. The doc only prescribed a regular CPAP and of course non of the ones they offered were data capable, nor would they change the script to the machine that I wanted, which was the A/Flex. When I told the DME that I was going to go to my own doc for a script, She "bad lady" DME actually called my own doc and told him I did not need the machine I wanted. Luckily my doc thought she sounded nuts on the phone and "got it" as far as the money goes. So, in the end he did give me a script for the exact machine I wanted. I fired the bad lady and gave her back her plain old machine and went elsewhere and GOT what I wanted with no questions asked.

My motto, be careful with this kind of doc and DME set-up. They are in this together to make money off of us so called dumb ole patients.

i had the same experience these last few months...my dr. re-titrated me after a year on cpap and increased my pressure...for the first time since i started i was having terrible trouble with mouth leaking/dry mouth/chipmunk cheeks...i also got to the point where i couldn't use my machine for a few days...after only a few days though, i became a zombie, like i was pre-cpap

i reduced my pressure a little and i'm back to sleeping with my cpap and getting good numbers, no mouth leaking or mouth breathing any more

IMHO, while it may be helpful to get into your set up mode, in the long term it's more important to get a data capable machine if it's at all possible...i had an f&p model when i started and while it was a good machine, it didn't record data and i felt like i was completely in the dark...please correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't believe any f&p's have data capability; what 6pt star said about mouth leaks at even a lower pressure could be true, but you have no way to know for sure

as for your set up mode, someone is bound to weigh in with those instructions if you change your subject line to something more specific

good luck!

I have the same machine.
When you turn it on, hold down the top and bottom buttons at the same time. After a few seconds, you will see a "flashing" mountain symbol. Scroll through options with side arrow until you come to pressure. You can adjust it up or down using the up and down arrows.
Good luck - I've used this machine for two years and have been very successful with it.

Post by WildON » Wed May 28, 2008 5:27 pm

Thans Everyone. I'll try it at 10psi tonight and maybe I'll get some sleep for once.

Sharon, Let me know how it goes with the new doctor. Maybe I'll give them a try. What is a DME?? (See, I've been on the CPAP of and on for over a year and I don't even know the lingo. Great doctor hey??)

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff

I really liked my new sleep doctor it is night and day difference in my care with the new one. He did things that my old sleep doc never did in all most 2 years I had him. My old doctor only saw me 3 times in 2 years. I had lots of issues that he never addressed either. No wonder I gave up using cpap for 6 months. My kids encouraged me to start using it again no thanks to my previous sleep doc. Pm me if you want all the info on him.

By the way my new sleep doctor told me that since I am still tossing and turning at night that means my pressure isn't right. I am still having apenas that are waking me up. I took all my 3 sleep studies yesterday and he said they weren't good at all not once did I get to REM sleep. On june 3rd I have to have another sleep study but this time he is putting me on some medicine to knock me out so I will get to REM sleep. He also said that your worest apenas are during REM sleep. My last sleep study in October of 07 they had my pressure up to 18 and my old sleep doctor only put me up to 9. The new one said he would have put me up to 18 for sure. I have a follow up with him on June 18 and he said he would go over my sleep study in detail with me my old one never did that. So am very encouraged about this new one.
He was talking with me for 30 minutes at least about all my concerns. I was lucky to see my old one for 5 minutes.

I have a question about my sleep style 600

Post by bryamych » Sat Sep 27, 2008 9:29 pm

I have been having a problem for about the last 2-3 months. I have been waking up in the middle of the night with alot of moisture in my mask and all over my face (in the area of the mask). I did knock it off the night stand twice in the 1.5 years I have had the machine. I did get new mask and heated tube around the time I started having this problem . So, the other night I decided to hook up my old equipment and see if I had the same problem (I was thinking maybe it was faulty equipment). I did not the first night, then last night I did get a little moisture but it was a very little bit. Let me know if anyone else has had this problem. I am thinking I need to have it looked at but I have no insurance right now.

Thank you!
