need help adjusting new APAP

Just got a new Puritan Bennent 420 E Auto Cpap. Have never used an auto pap before. The directions are not particularly clear. How can I forgo the ramp feature? I had been using a setting of 10, but don't believe it was adequate and got an auto pap because I can't get in for a new sleep study for a while. The setup procedures are confusing and I keep getting an error code. Anyone else have trouble with this brand? Thanks.

Not familiar with your machine, but on my 425 BiPAP the ramp feature only works if you press the ramp button. Just pressing the "ON" button starts the machine at full pressure.

Get the Silverlining software from cpapcom. Enuf of folks on this board can help you download or ans. some specific computer questions. Your machine can be set either for auto (which I have) or straight cpap, which it sounds like you have. What the 10 means is that is the pressure you have blowing thru all during your sleep. With the auto feature, it is set in a range, so you start out perhaps say from 7-14 which is where I have mine set. I know how to go in on the silverlining program and change my settings. But, saying that, talk to your DME and tell them you want the auto feature, and they may give you a whole lot of ''talk'' on why leaving it in cpap. But bottom line, maybe the 10 is too little or too much. With the software you can monitor yourself DAILY, (and I am no computer geek believe me), and see how many episodes you have, both apnea's or hypop's and monitor the pressure blowing in as well. I check my numbers almost daily and I went from 13)+ during my titration study to averaging less than 10 a day or even lower. I was originally prescribed a straight cpap at 12.

Now in my auto mode, I have hit 10-11 a few x's, but never the '''original'' 12. Point being is that I am sufficiently getting pressure, at range that may be lower than the straight #.

My DME knew NOTHING about the 420E, had to ask a sales rep, then she walked me thru the installation, set up and out she went, never to be seen again. (which is not a problem).

As to your comments re: PB's instructions, no they are not clear. I agree with you on that.

My suggestion is to contact your DME supplier, tell them you want to change to auto mode, you may need your MD to re-do the scrip and then have them make the change.

They are supposed to do all that for you. I do it myself, but that's because I've got the software and I've been on the PB 420E for 5 + mos. now.
I use the heated humidifier that goes with it, the Goodknight.
Do you have a htd humidifier. It is important I think, so your nose doesn't get dried out.

Press and hold the secret button under the G in Goodknight and the Lt key at the same time. Then use the lt and center keys to make adjustments.

Or ........Buy the software.....
