Yeah Slinky -- you were well armed with valid information and valid arguments that he couldn't refute. That's always a good thing.....
I've found any time I talk to the doc, the more info I have about the subject matter, the more likely they are to listen and agree with or correct perceptions. I may have a different perception of an issue than what is real in a medical sense. My mind is always open for valid arguments and good information (but I do check it out!!!! Like Ronny Ray-gunz said, " Trust, but verify")
Now here comes the philosopher......Buttons can only be pushed if it is allowed!!! (It took me a lot of years to learn that and to instill it in my wife). If a button is pushed, smile and let it slide by -- and if possible refute the information.
For instance in this case -- Unnecessary questions -- I would have asked the doc, what he considered unnecessary questions?? A stupid question is one that isn't asked, so what exactly is unnecessary?? Personally, I don't see any unnecessary questions and every question deserves an answer.....but that's just me......
end philosophy......sorry, couldn't help myself......
ya done good slinky!!!!
cheers

You are oh so right. And I know that ... but ... knowing and doing as you have learned from experience does not necessarily come easily. *sigh*goose wrote: ... Buttons can only be pushed if it is allowed!!! ...

You are oh so right again, of course, but I haven't graduated that far yet. The best I can do at this point is bite my tongue, cut the occasion short, walk out and go somewhere to cool off!!!
Walking out w/o flying off the handle is an accomplishment for me over my usual reaction at this point in time. Maybe by the time I'm 100 I'll have learned this lesson and polished my response.

Re: New Doctor and I Cleared The Air ....
[quote="Slinky"]Well, this new doctor just may work out after all. Was in to see him today. I got my reports, the full data summary scored reports, already had the dictated results reports.
He brought up that I NEEDED to start the Requip. When I tried to remind him WHY I hadn't started it yet he began to talk over me so I made it a point to talk over him. I made it clear to him that I was one step away from another resection w/at least one high grade partial obstruction and the possibility of two other lesser obstructions which was the reason I was going to Mayo next week. He then understood and admitted his specialty was sleep medicine and his concern was my sleep problems but understood I was NOT being unreasonable or ignoring his advice. I assurred him I would try the Requip as soon as I felt that I could reasonably safely do so.
Then I brought up my resentment of his statement last time that I asked "too many unnecessary questions". At first he denied it but I was NOT letting it go at that. The air had to be cleared or I would have to leave this sleep lab. He then did say that his meaning was not as I took it, only that I had enough to contend with and to let the researchers and the doctors .... at which point I just said that I was the one who endured both the benefits and the consequences of any therapy or treatment and it was the doctor's job to make the suggestions, to offer advice, but I was the one in the end who made the decision. He was very gracious and accepted that. Considering I'm not the most diplomatic person in the world I think it went well, he didn't take offense and actually seemed to have an understanding of where I'm coming from and could work w/that. So ... I'm hopeful we'll do okay.
Anyway, I'm glad we cleared the air. I assurred him that I was being as compliant to his recommendations as I could be under the circumstances and would always try to follow his recomendations as much as possible. And he was agreeable that in the end I had to be the one to make the final decisions. This is such a good sleep lab w/such good staff I sure didn't want to have to write them off. So I'm greatly relieved!
And I have to thank those forum members who talked some sense in to me when I was so furious and bound and determined to just write this doctor off as bad news.
