I have turned my cpap humidifier down to 2 as I noticed that I was stuffed up more at a higher number. Now I am having bloody noses in the morning and I am wondering if buying a room humidifier will help my bloody noses and not contribute to my stuffiness. Has anyone had any experience with this?
Just for your information, I used to get bloody noses as a kid almost everyday because of thin membranes. It got better as I got older.
Room Humidifier and Stuffed Up Nose
I guess it just goes to show you how different we all can be. I've never been prone to nose bleeds - but - altho I didn't get a nose bleed I used a CPAP w/o a humidifier for just two nights and the interior of my nose got so dry and raw that the air pressure from my CPAP was like pouring salt on a raw wound.
I next tried using my CPAP w/just a passover humidifier and my nose got so cold there was no way I could sleep plus the longer I tried to use it the colder ALL of me got no matter how many blankets I piled on.
I then used an integrated heated humidifier and did fine - until late in the winter we had a real cold spell w/high winds which kept the furnace going almost constantly. Again my nasal passages dried out and got tender and sore despite my integrated humidifier turned as high as it would go. I had to use a Fisher & Paykel HC 100 stand alone heated humidifer in order to get enough humidity to sleep comfortably.
The rest of the year my integrated humidifer works just fine for me and I just adjust how much humidity up or down according to my comfort level w/it. But even in the hottest, most humid weather of the year, I could NOT use my CPAP w/o some CPAP humidity.
It may be your nasal pillows interface. They are more drying to the nasal passages than the nasal cushion or full face masks. At least they were for me. Many find using something like Ayr Saline gel helps alleviate that dry, raw nose from nasal pillows until the nose toughens up.

Women are Angels. And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly.....on a broomstick. We are flexible like that.
