Accupuncture....China

Post by Iwondered » Wed Jun 01, 2005 8:36 pm

Does anyone know if Acupuncture has ever been considered for a treatment for Sleep Apnea? And/or how is sleep apnea treated in China?

I'm sure you can find someone that will claim accupuncture works. As long as you have the $$. Probably as good as some of the pills we take.

They do not treat sleep apnea in China. They make them work. No sleep, No sleep Apnea. Right ! Work, work, work.

I tried acupuncture at the urging of my wife and freinds. Did absolutely nothing for me but make me feel foolish. It was a trip though. And don't let them tell you it does not hurt

I hate to say it at the risk of offending, but it seems to me that accupuncture is a rather fruitless solution to anything except maybe relaxing a person?? I have a very good Japanese friend who suffers terribly from allergies & other problems & she goes EVERY day for accupuncture. She never gets any relief other than the comfort she gets from being cared for during the accupuncture session! She is afraid to use Western medicines, but I cannot see any benefit to accupuncture when it does absolutely nothing for a person & they have to go every day. She has had a terrible ear infection for almost a year now & accupuncture has not helped one bit, but she keeps on hoping it will.

Acupuncture is another example of the unlimited gullibility of some people to believe what they want to believe.

P T Barnum is credited with the adage that a sucker is born every minute.

The alternative medical and health food folks are another such example.

There may be something healthy with some of the things they want to believe, but IMHO, the great vast majority is pure hogwash.

The ID folks are at the top of this list and I am not sure what the eventual GW hysteria will turn out.
I think this may well be the grandaddy of all scams.
I could be wrong.

Remember the NINE TIMES RULE- that people are nine times more likely to believe rumor than fact is in play.

Peple will beieve what they want to believe.
I could be wrong.

No, never heard of acupuncture or traditional chinese medicine (TCM) could cure sleep apnea.

However acupuncture and TCM does work for other illness. Perhaps in the western world it is rare to see it in action but in asia, it is an accepted form of medical, not "alternative medicine".

Years ago I heard a world famous scientist tell an interesting story. He had recently been on a trip to several Asian countries. Being famous, he met the heads of the medical societies in the countries that he visited. In either China or Taiwan (I can't remember which, too long ago) he asked his host about acupuncture. The response was "When we introduce the doctor to the patient as one of the leading practioners of acupuncture in our country, the results are outstanding. When we introduce the doctor to the patient as a new doctor in training, the results are poor."
