Jerry, it's that sexy baritone southern drawl. Gets them every time.

I only shot my pix on the styrofoam head because I can't take a pic of myself wearing my headgear and guarantee it will be in focus. And I happen to own a wig-head, because sometimes I wear a wig.

LOL,
Babs

Well now you know!

Hey Carol, Rose wrote me and told me she'd declined your XL offer. If you want to "bank" it with me, and I'll send it out when someone says they want one, feel free. I can store it in my Big Black Box of CPAP Misc.

Besides, Rose's BIL might want it after all.

Jerry, got your cannula last night - Thank you!!!

BTW, out of curiuosity, I plugged in the Medium Plus two nights back. Been working like a charm! Maybe I just had a "big nose night" when it quit working like a charm?

LOL,
Babs

I have had a time trying to figure the size/fit thing also. I keep one medium around just in case. It seems at times that I get some small leaks (Usually if my nares get wet) with my Small but the leak rate is always still under 30, usually around 28. I switch to the Medium for a night or two but it is a lot tighter and more uncomfortable and much harder to get in. If I roll it up and put it in it won't unroll enough to make a seal. When I do get it in I think great, better seal it is so tight it could not posibily leak. When I look at the data the leak rate is always around 32+. According to the leak rate chart that comes with the NAII the XS, SM & Med have the same leak rate. So like you Babs I go back to my small and get a smaller leak rate and more comfortable and I don't have to fight it to get it in.

Maybe I need a "SLIM", Babs what do you think?

Jerry

That's "slender" Jerry, and don't go shopping for it, because if you thought shopping for pantyhose was embarrassing, try tampons.

Heck, *I* don't even like shopping for tampons! I inevitably have NOTHING else in the cart, and end up with the teenage boy clerk...

I only buy them now late at night when wearing sunglasses and a trench coat.

ANYWAY....

I'm thinking I was more congested and wet when I swapped over to the Large than I am right now. Last night I twisted the cannula SOMEHOW and got to this very interesting place where I felt like I had nothing on, and was breathing completely freely. Weirded me out. I had to keep covering my vents to be sure I hadn't just twisted it OUT of my nose completely!

It was great though. Slept all night without a potty break even!

Hey, lastly, where can I find leak rates for the NAII? Has anyone found them for the Remstar Series M APAP? I think I found them once, but couldn't find it for that machine particularly.

Cheers,
B.

I was able to use the Nasal Aire all night!! Yep, used it without swapping it out. I often find when I try new masks out that I have to give it a few days before I actually use it the entire night as I go back to my old mask but last night using the Nasal Aire with the MP prongs was able to get a full night in.

Although I do have to tell you when I first went to bed I was glad there were no hidden cameras in my bedroom. I fought that thing like there was no tomorrow!! I tried to put the prongs in and just about have it when out they would pop!! Then the hose was doing funny things -- unsure if it came alive and was having fun with me or if it was the evil side coming out : . At one point I thought I was fighting snakes!! :

I bet it took a good fifteen minutes of hard work to get the mask on and hooked up. I finally got the prongs in and the headgear snug and everything good to go!!

It was light and non restricting and I liked that alot!! I was able to side sleep without any problems and that was a big plus. I even took a potty break and didn't have any problems rehosing back up -- even half asleep.

I am going to do some modifying on the headgear to make it more stable.

I was disappointed that my data was in the twilight zone again last night so have no idea how my numbers look -- although today was a good day overall.

Now that she has Encore it's gonna get dangerious. Babette the leak rates are on the instruction sheet that came with the NAII that you did not read. It is a graph by pressure and cannula size. I don'emember what your pressure is but at 10 cm/h20 the MP is 27 l/m the large is 33 l/m. If you will remind me what your pressure is I will look it up.

Carol, congratulations. Yes the headgear need some help. Thats why I like the way I set mine up. I slide it over the top of my head, put in the prongs and pull the hoses taut, real quick and I don't have to mess with strap tention. I can even sleep on my tummy if I move the pillow up a bit so it does not cover the vents. Hope it continues to go well. Keep us informed.

Carol - YAY!!! Glad to hear it!

I too have my headgear all adjusted, so that I can just slip my chinstrap on, plug in the prongs, pull my side tubes taut, and I'm good to go. No velcro re-setting required.

Some nights the plugging in seems to go worse than others. Lately, I've taken to putting my mask on after I've laid down. It seems to work better than sitting up. Probably because I'm CALMER and not YANKING things like the big hose, and then upsetting the machine, etc. etc.

Jerry - DOH!!!! Instructions? Oh sheesh... Hey, could you scan the leak chart for me, then? I'll save it to my hard drive for the next time I forget it...

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! Big smoochy cyber kiss!!!

I need to order my a chin strap like yours Babs. I don't need it as I apparently don't mouth breath but I like the way your mask is attached to it so am thinking it would make a good "headgear".

I don't want the tubes attached to anything in the back as I want easy removal when I get up in the middle of the night.

I was thinking about a stocking cap -- don't have one I will need to make a trip to the dollar store to buy one. I don't see why you couldn't do something with that to help stablize it.

It will be Saturday before I return your (Babs and Jerry) things.

Carol, I don't take mine off when I get up at night. The connector on the swivel is made a bit small and it slips out of the hose easy. I wear it to the potty and can breath fine with it disconnected. Go back and plug in the hose, and the auto on kicks back in.

Jerry, THANKS!!!!!! More cyber smoochies!!!!!!

Carol, NO RUSH! I'm good!

As for the stocking cap... You could totally create something with JUST a stocking cap, if you don't need the chinstrap. Sew some Velcro one-wrap to the stocking cap, so that they are laying flat and "open". You then pull them up around the tubes and anchor them there.

This would work REALLY GOOD right now for winter warmth. You could also make a summer version out of something less warm. Maybe a mesh baseball cap top.

If you do it, post pix so Laura can give you a Lab Rat award.

I need my chinstrap, but I've been contemplating adding a stocking cap to the mix just for added head warmth. I've kept the house very warm lately, because of rainout issues, but am contemplating turning down the heat, increasing the fleece snuggles hoses to include the NAII mask hoses themselves, and putting on a stocking cap before the chinstrap.

Oh Jennnnn..... ! Yes, I've contemplated wearing the Twilight Hood! (inside joke - Socknitster knitted me a reenacting accessory)

LOL,
Babs

I am going to make some snuggle hose covers for the NA this week-end. I have gotten where I cover all of my hoses and so far haven't been bothered with rain out.

I don't know if you are Jerry can answer a question for me or not -- if not I will post on another thread. I have received my F&P 150 humidifier. It is attached to the base but the base won't fit on my headboard (we use a waterbed headboard but have a regular bed) without a lot of shifting etc will it hurt anything to remove the base and use some of the no slip shelf liner? I have my xpap sitting on some and it is really stable and the dog hasn't been able to pull it off. I am unsure how to take the intergrated humidifier off from my M series and would like to leave it on till hubby gets home to take it off -- will that hurt anything?

If you get tired of my questions let me know!!

Carol, won't hurt at all. Take the little screw out and have at it. the weight of the water and the heater plate keeps it stable. If it tips the hose generally goes up so generally won't t let water get in the cpap. If you have it at bed level or higher one of the plastic elbows that they sell at lowes is a good idea. Lowers the leverage point to tip it over. If you have it on thje floor or real low you won't need it. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact name of the elbow, you will have to check with Rested Gal to get the right one. There are several and only one works.

I found it!

Hey either of you guys know the replacement schedule is for the cannula, it's looking like I may need small instead of the xsmall. I wish the one that Babs had sent out had small, glad it had xsmall and they seemed to work at the time, but my leak rate average is around 50 so I'm leaking a bit much. So I'm wondering when I can try and get the larger size from Kaiser if they still have any. (They stopped carrying the NAII)
