It doesn't have to be Velcro ... any banding type material that is about 1/2 inch wide and can easily be used to strap around the soft-lip cushion will do ... just make sure it is not a permanent band/girdle so you can remove it to wash the cushion and pillow assembly.

Well I went and got the large and they are way too far apart. I want this opus to work so bad but Im starting to feel like it wont I cant get a good seal. Thats 2 masks now that Ive tried and just cant get a seal - I swear my face is not odd shaped this sure is frustrating especially when it sounds like this opus should be the ticket. I dont know what to do. Im all for accepting the sleeping with some odd thing on my face I can swallow that and was totally prepared to go through an odd phase with little sleep getting use to it. However I wasnt aware that before even getting use to it that Id have to keep bugging this lady everyday and not getting even close to a good fit on anything. This sucks to put it plainly. So I either go back up there today yet with 2 toddlers under arm or try some more experiments although none have worked well yet for me and Im not sure what to try.

I have not had any luck fitting patients with this mask. I even pulled up the velcro pics and tried to fit the OPUS this way. However, my co-worker uses the OPUS and loves it and has had success titrating with it as well. Do not feel alone. Some masks just do not fit everyone. Hang in there.

I was using dental floss on my Opus but changed to a silicone oring. It works beautifully and is easy to remove for cleaning.

I've had pretty good success with OPUS except that I don't like the marks that it leaves on my cheeks.

The o-ring solution sounds very interesting. I will have to give that a try.

My DME provided me with an Opus to try. I was going to ask them to order an Aura/Headrest, but since they had the Opus in stock and they have a seven day exchange policy, I thought what the heck.

I was about to post some questions, but did a search first and found this fabulous thread. MuldOOn, DreamStalker and the rest of you who contributed to this thread, YOU ROCK. I was trying on the Opus earlier and could not figure out how to get a good seal. I will give the dental floss or velcro a try and see what happens.

I got strap marks just from trying the thing on for about 20 minutes this evening. I'll look for a temporary solution to that while I am test driving this mask. If I keep it, I will get some padacheeks. If the Opus doesn't work well for me, I will request an Aura/Headrest as that has been a very good interface for me (but a little noisy).

Thanks again everyone. I knew to come here after the information my DME gave me. He said he had never heard of the Opus leaving strap marks. In discussing possible leaks, I told him I used a little lanolin on my nares. He said that is not necessary. Sigh. I have no idea how cpap users can be successful if their only sources of information are the doctors and DMEs.

Well I'll be!! I can't believe the velcro trick. Or course when I tried the Opus, it was before finding this website. The nasal prong part kept falling out on me. I would wake up and find it in my bed, and air would be blowing like crazy.

More Opus info and looking for comments/suggestions

Post by shardebhow » Sun Nov 25, 2007 12:11 pm

I am new to this forum and using my CPAP. I have the newest version of the Opus nose pillows. It has additional padding on the straps that go over the cheek area, the band that connects the nose pillow goes all the way around it also comes with a carrying case, 3 sizes of nose pillows and the hose is 6'. I am mentioning this to let those who are currently using an Opus that they seem to have implemented some changes from previous versions. I was very interested in the suggestions for curing the nose leak situation. I know that I can get used to the normal inhale exhale noises but get frustrated and distracted my other noise. Is there any other noise that is normal when using the pillows? I am going to try the velcro suggestion to see how that works. I am still trying to determine which size nose pillows I need to work with. The tech who fitted me said I am a small but I am not so sure about that. Also, a cousin of mine who has been using nose pillows for several years suggested using Nasogel. She said that that is the best item she has found to keep nasal area less irritated and also helps to "seal" the pillows. I am determined to make this work as others ave said. I am so glad to know that this forum is here!
