Help!

Post by ssmall » Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:19 pm

I need help as I have not been making it more than two hours per night on CPAP. I hope someone can point me to a better interface. Here are some details:

1) I breathe PRIMARILY through my nose
2) Because I often have sinus issues, I alternatively need to breathe through my mouth
3) I am a side sleeper
4) I am a drooler

I have tried the following: Swift Nasal Pillow (not practical when I have sinus problems), Ultra Mirage Full Face (leaked often, never got comfortable), Oracle (drooling presented issues; did not like having my nose plugged) and Hybrid Universal (leaky nose cushions).

Can someone with similar issues tell me what worked for you? Thanks, in advance!

Sounds like you're on the right track. If the nasal pillows work most of the time (ie when you don't have sinus issues), stick with that. I started with the Activa, and had to train myself to nose breathe. However, I wanted to have a backup for times I was congested. I tried the Comfort Full 2 (got it free from my DME) and hated it... leaked like a sieve.

Next I bought the F&P 432. It felt comfortable and didn't leak. As long as I only used it for one or two nights it got the job done. However, any more than that, and I would have a horrendous sore on the bridge of my nose, no matter what I did. You may want to try out several other full face masks at your DME. Try them at your full pressure, and if possible lying down on your side with a pillow. Others have had success with almost any FF mask you can name. By the same token, there will be as many who have not been able to get any given mask to work. It's completely individual, and you just have to try different ones.

my suggestions:

- Soyala nasal mask, seals up good, comfortable, light, absolutely the quietest nasal mask you'll find. Make SURE you size it correctly, if you are using a Medium, get a Large in the Soyala. You don't want the mask riding down on the nose and you don't want it pressing on the nose from the outside adding to congestion.

- Use a saline rhino rinse for sinuses, congestion to reduce.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
