I am due for a new mask need help selecting

Post by sleepyhead63 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:20 pm

I currently have a swift mask and a mirage activa mask and I am not very fond of either one. I hear alot of good things about the inviracare twilight np and was thinking of getting that one next, and other suggestions?

I have a Swift and a Breeze, and the Invacare Twilight -- it is a great mask. Just the best. You can sleep on your side, your back, your face, however you want. I love mine and don't know what I'd do without it.
I do use the "rubber band fix" that you can search for here, to help bring it closer to my nose. Also the headgear is large, so I have mine snugged down as tight as I can, but I love it. I sleep well, all night long.
No leaks.

Another vote for the Twilight Aura. The headgear is large so mine has been cut off.

Great masks are those than can be altered to fit a person's face. Would you consider sneakers great if you couldn't lace them to fit your foot perfectly?

Twlight NP (edit - can't seem to get the hang of that new name...) (Aura) is my favorite too, and yes I also have to use the rubber band trick.

viewtopic.php?t=3098 (And thanks to Rested Gal for the link complation in which I found this link).

Rule of thumb: you run into a tip you don't understand - do a search for the term with Rested Gal as author. and you'll find a link to it....

i tried the swift, but i hated it for side sleeping
i tried the comfortlite but the headgear was enormous
i tried the comfortlite 2 and it worked for a while but since my septoplasty it hurts my nose (but i really liked it up till then)
babette loves the nasalaire II and lots of people really dig the breeze

these days i've really been trying to make the NP work and so far it's the least of all the evils , but i'm going to have to try the rubber band trick tonight as i JUST CAN'T SEEM TO GET RID OF THE LEAKS!!!

i do use the pantyhose trick--now if i could only get up the nerve to decapitate it

Sharon, IT'S TIME! I'll send you some nerve FED EX.

Go forth and chop it's bleepin' head off!

And, while you're at it, modify your CL2, too.

LOL,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Yeah, another vote for the Twilight NP.

And Sharon, please, cut it up. Like now.

Altho I thought I would like them, I've found I'm not all that wild about the nasal pillows. I liked the ComfortLite2 'cause of all the areas for adjusting fit that it offered. But once I switched from the CL2's nasal pillows to the CL2's simple nasal cushion I loved it. UNTIL I tried the Simplicity! The Simplicity's cushion is "simple" like the CL2's simple nasal cushion and small like the CL2's simple nasal cushion. There's not much too it, the headgear is light, the interface itself is light.

The Simplicity headgear did take a simple "fix" to fit. The center strap was too long. I simply folded it to fit and "locked" the fold w/a strip of velcro until I was sure I had that strap the length that worked for me, then cut the "fold" out and secured the ends w/the strip of velcro. For some reason, Respironics didn't bother to taper the velcro strips on the lower straps and if not placed CAREFULLY the velcro could overhang the straps and irritate the skin on your neck. That was simple to fix, taper the velcro strips w/scissors.

And by the way, the velcro I used for the center strap actually came w/the Simplicity as a swivel clip so if you wanted the option of the hose running up above your head. I like the freedom of the easy swinging swivel and had no need for the clip so I just used that velcro swivel clip to adjust the center strap. AND if you don't want to cut the center strap its no problem to just leave the fold in and not cut it out.

Twilight NP!!!

For me, I can't say enough good things about the mask. In my first year of APAP therapy I tried 4 masks - didn't like any of them (including the CL2) - and was almost resigned to the fact that sleeping was going to be uncomfortable for the remainder of my days.

Then I tried the Twilight NP and everything changed. It's about as comfortable as I could imagine a mask being. More importantly, my numbers went down. My AHI is usually less than 1, rarely over 2, and hasn't been over 3 since I started with the mask. The best I saw with any other mask were 4's (still better than 60 untreated!)

Of course, everyone is different. But definitely give the Twilight NP a try.

Consider Design

Post by Tonyparmiter » Fri Jun 22, 2007 1:47 pm

The newer Resmed Masks are prone to failure at the elbow fitting, so consider carefully that "lightweight" can also mean flimsy construction and repeated breakages
