Comfort Lite 2 Review

Post by dkeat » Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:31 am

Spent my first night with the new Comfort Lite 2 and I must say I was very impressed. Hard for me to imagine someone not being able to get this mask to work for them. It has so many adjustments and bells and whistles that make it the best mask I have used so far.

Previously I had used the Aura for about 6 months and this was alright, but I would frequently suffer from irritation of my nares when I used rubber bands to tighten the seal. Without the rubber bands the seal was leaky. Also got quite a bit of rainout from the Aura in winter. I am pleased that the hose on the Comfort 2 is substantially shorter.

This mask is like getting two masks in one. Mine came with nasal cushions as well as a standard over the nose mask. I can see sending my nares on vacation once in a while and using the standard interface to do so.

The only thing that I didn't like about the mask was that it was delivered broken by cpap.com. The hose had a pencil lead sized hole in it and one of plastic hose supports on the headgear was broken off. Cpap.com told me tough tooties - that because I live in Switzerland if I want to exchange the mask I would need to pay for postage both ways. I decided to buy some glue instead and put some tape over the hole. It seems to be holding so far.

Anyway, I would highly recommend this mask to anybody interested in a nasal mask. If you liked the Aura you will probably like this one too. And you won't need rubber bands or panty hose to make it work. Of course, you never know. Everyone has a different head - someone out there will certainly prove me wrong.

Many thanks for posting your review.

What do you think of CL2's noise? Is it quieter than Aura?

I'll second the comments about the CL2. I've now had it (my first) for about 3 weeks and have gotten it adjusted so that I often don't know I have it on.

Some tips that worked for me:
  • Move the top straps to the top connector (mine came attached to the middle connector)

Wear the headstrap very low on the back of the head - this causes a vector of pressure keeping the mask more steady. Having the front strap connections at the top and the headstrap low gives an almost 180 degree oppositional force - works wonders for me.

Use a little marine face mask glue (see other thread about this) It keeps the nasal pillows nicely attached to the nose without any irritation at all.
I've gotten so that I really look forward to putting it on because I know that I'll be breathing freely very soon after.

Couldn't really comment on the noise it makes. I sleep with earplugs.

Well, I had so much condensation collected in the mask that a few nights ago when I turned onto my back I got a nose full of water. Nice way to wake up.

Best solution to prevent a nose full of water:

http://www.sleepzone.com.au

"heated cpap tube"

SZ4 for Respironics, ResMed and Fisher & Paykel machines - $109 U.S. dollars includes shipping to the U.S.

If you have a Puritan Bennett machine, I'd suggest emailing them to make a special request for the heated hose with sensor line for PB machines, but WITHOUT a piggyback connector.

Babette,

Yes you get the marine mask seal from your local dive shop.

You have dive shops in North Texas? Becky, the image is just making me laugh....

Thanks much! I'll call Lighthouse Dive shop this afternoon!

Okay, Lighthouse Dive thought this sounded pretty weird.

After hearing my story, he thinks what I want is "silicone sealant". It's a food-grade silicone. He does carry it, and he encouraged me to bring in my mask and let him see what it is I want to do.

Think I'll do that. He was nicer than the DME.

Hi - I was the one that originally tried the glue - it doesn't work nearly as well as Tincture of Benzoin which I've been using faithfully for about 8 months. I apply the tincture to the bottom of my nostrils each evening, let it dry and the CFLite stays nicely in place the entire night as long as I don't get too carried away. It's really terrific and very cheap - I get mine at the local Walgreens (by special order) but it costs about $5 per bottle which lasts 3-5 months.

great stuff.

Here's what I found surfing Google for Tincture of Benzoin:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tincture_of_benzoin

http://www.meridianinstitute.com/echerb ... nzoin.html

http://www.brucemedical.com/bentin.html

Sounds like Walgreen's is the cheap source.

How did you come upon this, TN-Ken? I sorta got the mask sealant - very intuitive, but this is sort of esoteric stuff.

Cheers,
B.

I like a lot of things about the Comfortlite 2 but there are also a couple of things I don't like. For one the attachment on the top of the head at first glance is great but I always knock it against a pillow and it moves my mask.
Also the head piece in the front rubs my thin hair and tends to break it off and I can't spare any!
