A couple problems

Post by patseguin » Tue Apr 24, 2007 8:59 am

Well, last night I got into the clinical menu and moved my pressure up to 10 from the prescribed 8. I guess I probably shouldn't be doing that though. I started out not feeling very well and thought this problem was related, but maybe not. I kept waking up throughout the night feeling this kidn of movement in my chest and stomache. I kept having to burp when it got to a certain point. There was no pain or anything but it felt funky and the constant burping kept me up much of the night. I'm assuming this is some kind of issue with the higher pressure. If I ever get moved up to a higher pressure, is this what I have to look forward to? I never knew about APAP machines, so should I ask my doctor to prescribe one for me?

My second problem is marks on my face from the Swift mask and a couple of pimples. I'm 38 and probably haven't had a pimple since I was 18. Any tips on how to avoid that? I'm fairly sure the mask is causing them.

The first issue is aerophasia. Air is getting into the tummy. If you do a search for aerophasia you'll get lots of info on the causes and possible remedies.
For the marks on your face; if any are caused by the headgear you should go to http://www.padacheek.com or PM padacheek, she is a forum member and will work with you to fix the problem. For the pimples; it can take a while for your skin to get used to this. I would give it some time to see if goes away on it's own. Do be sure to clean your mask daily and you face begore masking up.

Hmm. I was neither cleaning the mask nor my face. That could be the problem.

Does getting an APAP solve the aerophasia problems?

An apap may help. If you have c-flex, try different settings. Some find that c-flex helps some find that it makes it worse. I have read that some have this problem in the beginning, but it goes away after a while.

I have no indea what cflex even is. I have a Resmed S8 Compact.

I went back to my pressure of 8 last night and experienced no aerophasia. I still wake up quite often, which is getting REALLY old. I'm just hoping the apnea is gone and I am just adjusting to the mask.

C-flex is a momentary drop in pressure on exhale to make exhalation easier. Resmed machines don't have it some resmeds have EPR instead, pretty much the same thing. If you need a higher pressure try increasing it more slowly. Say 8.0 to 8.5, then increase again in a few days until you get to where you need to be.

I do hear a different sound from the machine when I exhale so it must be doing something. I'll try raising it more gradually like you suggested.
