May need some tweaking here - My readings

Post by dieselgal » Fri Mar 16, 2007 6:16 am

Ok, my last two nights on CPAP have been working out very well. I have slept the entire night with the mask on and I feel like I have slept very well compared to before. I am not moving around and flipping and flopping. I no longer get up to go the the bathroom. I do still wake up a couple times at least and turn over etc. In general I feel better and I am sleeping better. Now for the BUT...
I have the ResMed S8 and I try to check it each morning for leaks etc. My ramp starts at 4 and my pressure is set at 9. I don't tend to have leaks so my mask is doing well but for some reason my readings are as follow.

Pressure : 7.4
AHI: 1.6
AI : 0.1
HI : 1.5

My machine does have the EPR setting and I am using that features which drops my exhalation pressure to 6,

Do the above numbers mean my pressure isn't high enough?

Hardly! Those are excellent numbers, dieselgal. With more than a year on this therapy, I wish my numbers were as good as yours are.

Don't let me discourage you from adjusting things, but with numbers so low, don't worry too much if you fail to see improvements as you make changes.

Regards,
Bill

The number that confuses me is the 7.4, shouldn't that be 9??

From what I've read about the ResMed machines......since you're using EPR (I presume 3), it actually drops the pressure by the amount of that setting.....so, the 7.4 is approximately splitting the difference of your pressure drop from EPR to the set pressure of 9 and showing that as the average. In other words, your inhale pressure is 9 and your exhale pressure is 6. Halfway in between is what it's reporting. (don't know what it did with the other 0.1 though)
If you were to shut off EPR, then it would show an average pressure of 9.

And, those are good numbers. I wouldn't do any tweaking at this point.

That is good to know. I just thought for some reason I was losing pressure.
I have felt really good about sleeping, but I do still feel sleepy during the day and I was hoping that would be better by now.
