How can 1 person in the family have sleep apnea

Post by Marcusstephen » Thu Dec 15, 2022 10:57 pm

I’ve been curious for a long time as to why I have sleep apnea and no one else in my family or extended family has it . I’ve looked at lifestyle differences and come up with one habit that may have a bearing on why i have it. Now I maybe barking up the wrong tree here and some people who continue with certain habits may lob in some resistance here, but , I smoked cigarettes for 15 yrs and enjoyed weed for about as long.
That is the only thing I can identify that separates my lifestyle, diet and habits from others in my family .
Thoughts ?

Tobacco, or just weed smoke does cause damage,
but nature might be more at fault
Maybe you lost the recessive gene drawing.
Genetics is a crapshoot.
Win some--lose some.
Always look on the bright side of life.
Can you use edibles?
Sorry; don't got any . . .

Apnea is mostly an anatomic problem and sometimes very small differences - genetic or otherwise - can do it. Don't worry about it, doesn't really mean much alone.

You may be the only member of your family who is presently experiencing the benefits of PAP therapy. However, it may be that past members would have benefited, that present members could eventually benefit, and that future members will benefit.
The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

Well, in a forum, we all have to be good looking, 'cause we're so hard to see.

You are the only one being TREATED for sleep apnea in your family. That does not necessarily mean you are the only one who HAS sleep apnea. Many people go undiagnosed, or (as I was) in deep, deep denial.

Many of us had forebears who suffered from apnea, but were never treated.
My grandmother snored so loud, I dreamed I was riding in a helicopter.
