Hybrid, yes or no?
Winter is upon us here in the Midwest and I am concerned about getting a cold. So I am looking for a 'full face' mask just in case. I remember a few months ago there was a lot of discussion on the Hybrid and the headgear being flimsy. I am considering getting one, and want to know if anyone has purchased a Hybrid recently, or know if there have been any changes/upgrades to the headgear.
Thanks very much.

I used the Hybrid with the original headgear for 2 months (July-August),
with the "free trial" headgear for 4.5 months (September-January), and
the "new gray" headgear for 6 days.
Cppap-dot-com has the "new gray" headgear in stock. However, if you are
buying a new headgear only, you will need to request it, because it has the same
part number as the old one.
My advice, give them a call, and find out if they can supply the new headgear with your purchase.
With the new headgear, the Hybrid is now worth it's high price.

And you might look into the used one that is for sale - a less expensive test. Here's the link:

I love my hybrid. It's has solved my mouth leak problem and my AHI's have gotten really low (routinely around 2). I have had to battle with mask leaks but the new grey headgear has done away with that. That new headgear is fabulous! So be sure that you get that.
Also, I love the high CO2 flush rate that the hybrid has. I feel like I'm really breathing fresh air and I feel great in the morning. The other masks I've used (Breeze & Swift) just didn't give me that fresh air feeling.

Amen to everything Maryb said.
This new headgear with the Hybrid makes this the best mask out there. The mask was great before but I spung little leaks during the night.
No more. The mask is perfect now.
If your mask comes with the old black headgear, call Respcare customer service for a free upgrade. The upgrade is grey on the inside. Fantastic.

mouths (oldgearhead and rooster), not so well with longer faces and larger mouths (JFK and RG).
I have a fairly long face and a large mouth but the Hybrid works perfectly for me. Could it be that the new headgear has changed the equation and the product now can work for a wider range of patients?
Didn't work well for me
I know most people here who try it seem to like it, but I'm not one of them. I have a Hybrid. In the closet. I didn't have any problems with getting it to seal, but for some reason, I got lot's of condensation in the mask after only 10-15 minutes, even with the HH on 1.
Tried a Breeze too. Uncomfortable for me. Maybe my head is too big. So, I'm still using the Swift, which actually works fine for me.

PSG - AHI= 73.21; Low SaO2=62%
Titration result: 12 cm H20; AHI-0.4; lowest SaO2=95%

I have been on cpap for 1 year. Tried a variety of masks. Have used the hybrid for the past six months. It has worked great for me. I hope it works even better with the updated headgear. I did have to remove the chin flap to reach the success I have gotten.

The original 'old" headgear was made of a thin, black, cloth-covered stretchy material.
It was black or navy in color. After two washings, the velcro would stop sticking. It had the logo.
The "trial" headgear was a very thick all black material, like the HC431.
It was a big improvement over the "old" one. It does not have the logo.
The latest headgear is black on the outside and gray on the inside. It
has the logo. It's, by far, the best...
