Hi all,
I went to the sleep study center last night and spent my first night with a cpap machine on. I have to admit I was a little claustrophobic at times and of course all the wires and plugs from the sleep study equipment did not help either. The good news is that I finally had good REM sleep. The tech told me the difference between last night and my previous sleep study was remarkable going from over 80+ events/hour to a minimal amount. When I woke up I thought it was still early evening and it was actually 5am! The mask they used was very uncomfortable on my upper lip and put a lot of pressure on my upper teeth (which are crowned and very sensitive anyways) so I guess I will have to do a lot of research to find a mask I am comfortable with. I also was extremely congested in the morning (I think that is what woke me up was that I was having trouble breathing through my nose). I forgot to look at what machine they used so I guess I will need to rely on you all when I get my final numbers.
I had my first night with CPAP machine!
Wow! Congratulations on having such good results during your titration study. I slept so little I had to go back for a second and didn't do a heck of a whole lot better the second one.
You're right, of course, about having to find the right mask. You might ask if they used a heated humidifier. I would think that they would have but I know during one of my titrations I had some "rain out" and it was COLD water, not even room temperature. A heated humidifier does give more humidity and does a lot to avoid the congested sinuses and nasal passages come morning.
You're way ahead of where I was when I started PAP having had a decent rest and sleep during your titration study. My first 30+ days on PAP were ROUGH. I was so tired I was a real witch, couldn't even stand myself. Now, altho we still have some minor tweaking to do I am doing great, feeling so much more rested than prior to PAP .... I'm just "into" my fourth month on PAP.
Here's wishing you continued good luck!!!!

Wow....I can't belive you are getting such great results so quickly. Consider yourself lucky. I have had my machine for 3 weeks now and I have been through 3 masks and 2 chin straps and can only handle the machine for about 1 to 2 hours a night until I start mouth breathing or my face gets irritated with the mask. I am now using sinus rinses for the congestion (which has worked really well). I just can't wait until I start to sleep the entire night with the machine and feel the difference!
