Sleeping too long
Hey I tried searching and I can’t find anything on this topic.
I have had my resmed 11 for about a month and I am doing great. 100 most nights. My only issue is that I am sleeping 9.5-11 hours most nights. I am not waking up, I am not having to pee or anything. Literally sleeping like a log for 9.5-11 hours. Sounds great on paper but makes it difficult to have much of a life. I can set an alarm but it’s still difficult to wake up when it goes off. I have read that my body might be catching up on all the lost sleep and rem but just wondering how long this will last? Can I expect my sleep length to shorten at some point? Thanks!

I did that for a couple of months. Had to go to bed earlier to get the amount of sleep my body wanted, like 10-11 hours per night. I remember one night in particular I slept 16 hours. It gradually stabilized after that to around 8 hours.

I think your body is trying to catch up from the bad sleep you had before. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Thank you. I figure it will even out eventually. I don’t mind getting sleep but it’s tough on the rest of my life sleeping so much.loggerhead12 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 12:42 pmI did that for a couple of months. I know that a lot of people have trouble sleeping a good amount and was hesitant to even post it because I didn’t want anyone to feel bad. If I could give you some of my sleep I would.

Thanks. It’s what I figured. Not worrying, just need the extra couple of hours added to my schedule to get things done.Deborah K. wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 3:13 pmI think your body is trying to catch up from the bad sleep you had before. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
Re: Sleeping too long
If it doesn't go away, I would encourage you to discuss it with your Sleep Specialist. You could have another condition like Narcolepsy or Idiopathic Hypersomnia or something else entirely. Some people need more sleep too, so it could be normal too. Its worth getting checked out though if its disrupting your life.
Re: Sleeping too long
Sleeping can't be 'caught up on'.
If you're having issues waking with an alarm, then set the alarm device away from your bed so that you can't shut it off without getting up.

Yes, there is such a thing as sleep debt. You may "pay off" this debt and start sleeping a more normal amount of hours.
If not, speak to your sleep doctor.
