How to keep my mouth open
How to keep my mouth open
I have posted about this in the past but would still like to know how to keep my mouth open and my oral airways clear. This is using a Simplus or Vitera mask

Re: How to keep my mouth open
Nasal polyps and a deviated septum.
Then when my mouth closes or my oral airway gets blocked the Resmed Apap sees tons of flow limitation and it thinks that can be fixed by increasing the pressure to maximum.
Im posting this again as I woke up this morning feeling worse than I have done for ages.
So Im wondering if there is any new information about my problem

You need a doctor...not a message board

Re: How to keep my mouth open
Im on Warfarin, you call it Coumadin over there, for life and the ENT doc thought the risk of surgery was too great.
As he said "I can still breath through my mouth"

Re: How to keep my mouth open
To avoid disruptive pressure increases, you could always lower your maximum, but I'm not going to recommend that without seeing a lot more information from you, preferable via Oscar charts.
You might ask your doctor or dentist to recommend a safe device to prop open your mouth during the night. I have in mind the rubber spacers dentists use when they knock you out for oral surgery, but there might be better options out there. "Safe" is the key word here. You don't want anything that could choke you in your sleep. I would strongly recommend against a DIY approach.

Oscar does not help as it shows some nights the pressure will be stuck at 20 nearl all night and flow limitations ,which are probably nasal, stuck at 0.5.
I cap the pressure to 16 but I dont want to reduce the pressure any more
My hospital are no help as they think a deviated septum can be fixed by bi-pap which can be set to a higher pressure

Re: How to keep my mouth open
AFAIK your body auto opens your mouth when your nose gets blocked. It's instinctive. The flow limitation might just be from your airways. Have you been prescribed a nasal steroid spray for treating the polyps?edam wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 10:42 amNasal polyps and a deviated septum.

I need to keep my mouth open as my nasal airways are restricted

I've never done this and may never do it again, but here ----> https://www.cpap.com/plp/oral-cpap-masks/ZT0yNjk
Re: How to keep my mouth open
But I cant even use that at present as my gums are sore from having all my back teeth extracted. The plastic inside presses onto the extraction sites
