What can I do about leaks?
What can I do about leaks?
I'm using a ResMed AirFit F30i medium full face mask. I don't notice any leaks when I'm awake. I'm using the Eliminator to try to keep my chin from dropping. I have the hose hanging from my headboard to prevent it from pulling the mask down.
I check myAir in the morning and notice the high leak rate. I'm at a loss.
Thanks,
Mike

Do you have facial hair?
Have you ever tried a different mask?

How old is your headgear?
Have you ever had leaks under control?

Re: What can I do about leaks?
I don't have a beard but I don't shave every day.
I just got a new cushion and headgear recently.
I did notice my hose is cracked at the tip where the elbow connector is. I'm going to get a new one ASAP.
I don't think I've ever managed my leaks. I've tried several masks.
Thanks.

Re: What can I do about leaks?
Try to fix the crack the best you can until you can get a new hose or whatever is cracked.
Tape, tape, tape....even good old duct tape that is the handyman's heaven sent best ever tool.
Once you eliminate the crack as a factor in the leaks then experiment with shaving vs not shaving and see how much of an impact facial hair may or may not be playing in the leaks.
Turn the ramp off for some experiments using the mask while awake. See if you can ever get 0.0 leaks while awake.
Right now with using the ramp nothing really gets recorded and that includes leak so we don't really know if you ever have a period of non large leak.
Do a 30 minute test while awake...watch TV or read...where you know with certainty there are no leaks.
Check all connections for cracks as well...or even holes in the hose.
Leaks of this magnitude really make me suspect a hole in the hose or that crack or some sort of equipment failure.
You never ever really have any sort of decent leak management and you aren't feeling leaks around your face and with leaks of this magnitude if it was mask to your skin....I would think you should feel them which really makes me wonder about the known crack or some other unknown hole somewhere.

Re: What can I do about leaks?
Yeah, I wondered about the full pressure. I'll try that.
I'm also using a Pad-a-Cheek mask cover. I sleep on my side, so not sure if the pillow is pushing the mask.
I had bought this pillow a while back when I was using a full face mask with the hose in the front. It doesn't feel like it works as well with this mask.
Now I gotta find the duct tape. I know it's in the house somewhere.
Thanks.

Re: What can I do about leaks?
I been on a cpap now for 8 weeks. I have the same setup you have. I like the F30i. its a good mask. the head band on this mask is terrible. if you stay with this mask get a spare head band. I use my air. my score is up in the higher 90s every night. last night I scored 100. I new I had some leaks. I checked my air it showed some leaks. 1.2l/min. I new where the leak was coming from. the nose area. I study this mask every night. I don't use Oscar. I use my own common sense. after 8 weeks I think I have figured out this mask. it me. its how I'm laying on my pillow. I use cpapmax 2.0. I lay on my right side. when I move around my head shift the mask a little. this is what's causing my leaking. the head band loosen up a little too during the night. this will cause the mask to leak. I know what's causing my leaking now. mask shifts. what's next. I order a mask liner, head pad for the top of mask and two pads for the pads with the magnets. this should help keep my mask tight all night with very little leaking.whatever you do its almost impossible to stop mask leaking. none of these mask are perfect. you have to figure out what works best for you. the pads I ordered come from padacheek.com a little expensive but I think they will work. I wish somebody out there made a custom mask.
Re: What can I do about leaks?
if your hose is leaking, you can buy them from eBay for 15 dollars. I use slimline. I don't use humidity and heated tubing.
Re: What can I do about leaks?
Include in your awake experiments using the mask liner and not using the mask liner to see if it is impacting the leaks or not.

A firm pillow works best...You will be on top and not sinking in.Mike20878 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 8:28 amYeah, I wondered about the full pressure. I'll try that.

This is the one I use, I liked it so well I bought another.

LSAT uses a hybrid buckwheat. It has a foam mix I believe. I understand from his posts, he is very satisfied with it.
Maybe he will tell you where he bought his.
