Arousal apnea’s?
Arousal apnea’s?
I’ve been reading up on arousal related apnea’s but don’t think I’m quite getting it. I noticed that right before I awake I sometimes get a burst of events, but rarely during the night. I’m just trying to understand it, not fix something that likely does not need to be fixed. Any pointers to a simple explanation of it?

Re: Arousal apnea’s?
What kind of events? In many cases events just before you get up are Clear Airway events...you may be partially awake. If you were using Oscar and posted some detail, we could see for sure.

Re: Arousal apnea’s?
awake breathing and sleep breathing are controlled by two different 'systems' within your body. As you transition from one to the other, and back again, you may get what are called "transition apneas".
Ignore them.

Thanks. I was thinking the same, just needed some assurance from those more schooled in CPAP.

Re: Arousal apnea’s?
You will also see people refer to "sleep/wake junk" or SWJ here on the forum, that's just the informal name for the same thing, your breathing stumbling as your body switches from one type of breathing to the other, and if that goes on for long enough, the machine, not knowing any better, will flag something. In a sleep lab, they'd just ignore it.

So is SWJ sleep or not? Am I going from wake up N1, or is it just W?palerider wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 11:10 pmYou will also see people refer to "sleep/wake junk" or SWJ here on the forum, that's just the informal name for the same thing, your breathing stumbling as your body switches from one type of breathing to the other, and if that goes on for long enough, the machine, not knowing any better, will flag something. It was there last year when originally posted, but I deleted all my images long ago to let others upload things. Shoot. I don’t even remember what it was but Palerider got me through overthinking things, so I have not pondered it in a long time.

Oh, I just now saw it is a zombie thread revived.
Re: Arousal apnea’s?
Well, by definition, if you're awake, you're not in N1.

Where is there any "sleep" in "wake to wake to wake"?Billymadison420 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 17, 2022 7:26 pmLet me more direct with my question. Is Sleep wake a process from W>N1>W or is just W>W>W?
Google 'transition apnea', the more formal name.

So would this be scored as sleep and then wake on an MSLT, or wake, or both?palerider wrote: ↑Mon Oct 17, 2022 7:28 pmWhere is there any "sleep" in "wake to wake to wake"?Billymadison420 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 17, 2022 7:26 pmLet me more direct with my question.
