DS2 now $1099 was $879 earlier today.
And I saw ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet now $625, was $589 yesterday.

Supply and demand

Maybe they are cheaper to build than anyone suspected.
The build cost is very cheap.
The development cost is cheap when you fail to perform all of the required qualification testing - ISO-10993-X anyone?

as far as I can tell, the only "foam, element on my machine is the small foam filter on the outside of the machine (and it has never seemed degraded in any way over the years)
This is something that has been causing me to wonder. Which brands/models have that washable foam filter? If the internal sound-abatement foam is an issue, why not these filters?

It looks like the foam is sealed outside the air pathway. Why would ResMed want to put it inside the airway? The same could be asked about Philips. Why would they put sound-abatement foam inside the air pathway?
to lessen the amount of noise transmitted through the hose.

I found this article from April 21 interesting

My wife has been using a Dreamstation for several years. I tried to steer her to a ResMed but the doc’s DME department prevailed over me. The second I heard about this I immediately grabbed LSAT’s “for her” model that had just gone up so she should be good to go.

But when I called the doc yesterday for advice they said they didn’t know any more than I did but would contact us as soon as they did. In the meantime they recommended discontinuing use of the machine immediately. That would be fine for her moderate case but what if it were me with an AHI at Dx of 131? She’s good anyway until her new machine arrives because I set up my spare Autoset 9 for her.

I realize that Philips is a huge, wealthy international conglomerate. But let a few people die from not being able to use their machines on top of the inevitable cancer claims, and they could be pushed to the brink faster than the Audi CEO could say “sudden unintended acceleration” in 1985-1986.

Folks....ResMed dictates the prices that cpap.com can post any of their ResMed products. It's part of the agreement cpap.com signed to get a wholesale contract to sell any ResMed products.
When you see any ResMed sale....ResMed originated it.
It's been this way for years with cpap.com (or most online retail cpap sellers)....ResMed price fixes. The only places who can discount ResMed products are the sellers that don't directly work with ResMed and don't have contracts directly with ResMed.

883 has always been the MSRP for the AirSense 10 AutoSet....
but don't be surprised if you see it go higher now...ResMed isn't stupid..they know the value of their machines just went up.

It is what it is folks...supply and demand. Accept it and move on.

Doubtful. Resmed already addressed any foam issues they thought they had by blaming it on ozone devices.
Lawyers won't bother going where there's no money to make.

Don't get me started on big anything allowing a few to die just to cover their ass or stick their head in the sand. I would need a refill on my BP meds for sure.

The doctors who advise immediate stoppage...doing the very same thing...legally covering their asses as well.
I don't really fault them....that's really their only practical choice
BUT....they could immediately start the paperwork for their patients to get a different machine instead of this "wait and see" thing.

The problem is we don't know if resmed has the same problem because they use foam as well. their foam is smaller than philips' as I saw on youtube. But there is foma in their machine for sure.

yeah, they seem to want to have it both ways. they just want to stay hands off and not do anything.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

All these machines use foam of some sort....all sorts of foam. Just because Respironics has a problem with their foam doesn't mean that other brands use the same foam and will have the same problem.

ResMed has already addressed foam degradation issues that they found...and blamed it on the ozone cleaning devices.

If we were to go into panic mode about any foam in any machine....unwarranted panic for sure.

If I had a Philips machine, I would keep merrily using it until they decided to replace it. This panic is for chemophobes and lawyers.

100s of FDA adverse event reports a day and they kept on merrily shipping the product. Fear of huffing poison is not being a chemophobes. Philips obviously broke Federal Law. A biocompatibility analysis is required for medical devices. They failed miserably.
