Got my test results and need advice

Post by cookie246 » Mon Jan 08, 2007 3:32 pm

Hi-

received my test results today and need some help in interpreting.

Initial test
Mild OSA AHI = 10.1
Periodic limb movement index 19, arousal index 3
apneas 36 hypoapneas 36, increased in REM sleep - AHI 34 -44

Second test with CPAP
Optimal CPAP 11 cm
REM Sleep without Atonia
AHI = 2 Arousal index 15.8
Limb movement (REM Behavior disorder)

Cpap - 11 cm with AHI at 2, arousal index 15.8 with episodes of kicking screaming and limb movement, documented REM sleep without Atonia

I was on a CPAP with heated humidifier with ResMed Nasal Pillows. I had no trouble with the nasal pillows till just before waking I moved and created a leak.

The insurance co has approved a two month rental of BiPAP with heated humidifier. Any suggestions on type or brand? With a rental I may not have a choice but at end of two months that may change.

Let me know.

Hi, did they give you a reason for using Bipap vs C- or Autopap? And are you going to be doing something about the PLMs? Your new AHI sounds great (2) as would anything under 5.

what are plm's -- It is the insurance compnay that is saying to use a bipap. I have a two month rental and then will see how my data shows my improvement or lack thereof.

oops - plm is the leg and arm movements. Not sure what we are doing there. I havent heard anything about it except check the apnea and go from there. I suspect my paxil is the big culprit in the plm. we shall see.

Screaming??

Many of us have to be dragged to this treatment kicking and screaming, but its rare for it to show up in a sleep study 'before' we begin treatment!
