General anesthesia and central sleep apnea

Post by Jhonnytsunami » Sun Jan 31, 2021 9:50 pm

I made a topic earlier but I think they misunderstood me. I’m not worried about the the uppp surgery in itself I guess I’m just worried if it would be an issue because I have a few episodes of central sleep apnea. Like will it be dangerous for me don’t know if anyone has gone through surgery knowing they’ve had a few episodes of central sleep apnea.

Don't worry about it. Your oxygen levels will be closely monitored and if you run into trouble they can deal with it.
They would do this no matter what kind of apnea anyone might have.
Under general anesthesia they will be breathing for you anyway.

It's a non issue.

Anesthesiology is a medical specialty, like surgery, with 12 years of college/med school,
and a 4-year residency.
He/she will see you before surgery, when you will have the chance to express any concerns--
before they start pumping you full of happy juice.

UPPP will be out patient surgery. Ask your surgeon about using your machine after the surgery. I have had two major surgeries with general anesthesia since I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and started using a machine. I had several surgeries between when I had the UPPP surgery and I started using my bi-level machine. I came through all of them just fine.
