ComfortGelBlue vs what?? Need mask suggestions

Post by MtnPlayVA » Sun Oct 18, 2020 8:43 am

My husband and I both use the ComfortGelBlue and are now having to switch since they don't make it anymore. He got the Eson2 and I am now not sleeping because that thing makes so much noise. Does anyone have a suggestion of something similar to the ComfortGel? I'm going to have to find a new mask soon too. Neither of us has tried anything other than the ComfortGel up until now. He likes the Eson2 because it is comfortable but this is causing huge problems between us since I'm not sleeping due to the noise. Any suggestions?

Does your husband not have the noise reducing diffuser on his ESON 2?

Obviously mask manufacturers are going away from the blue gel cushions.
ResMed has just recently released a nasal mask using memory foam cushions.

They have been using the memory foam on full face masks for quite a while now.

The main downside to the memory foam though....cushion life. You can't wash them like you can the others and they have to be replaced more often as the foam breaks down more quickly.

I have been using Comfort Gel Nasal and Full Face both for years, still get them, got one last week Nasal medium. Are you sure Your DME isn't packing B.S., most of them have a big pile of B.S. stored in the warehouse, it tends to leak into their office. Jim

Also the Company that hosts this site, has them on sale NOW.

Yes he does but it is still really loud. Thanks for the info on the memory foam. We are calling the sleep doctor tomorrow to see what other options they have in their dme office.

I saw they were available online but they don't take insurance. They are being discontinued so at some point we are going to have to find a new mask, might as well do it now that we've met our deductible and it won't cost us a thing.

Masks can eventually get discontinued when they no longer sell well because the newer masks come out and people change masks.
Not everyone of course but enough of a drop in sales that they no longer make money to keep producing them.
Don't blame you for wanting to use you insurance...I would do the same but there are some online cpap retailers who will work with your insurance and file it and you just have to pay the co Pay. I don't have a working active list though. The best way to get the list is from your own insurance company as to who they have contracts with and then you go looking for the online seller and see if they have the product you want. Not all online insurance companies that will file insurance are in the insurance network.

I ran into that last spring....wanted someplace to by my Bleep mask and my brick and mortar store simply refuses to even order it for me.
So I found an online cpap seller that will file insurance and would love to help me but my insurance was out of network.....wouldn't pay a dime.

Meaning I could maybe give you a name of someone that would file your insurance and has what you need but if they aren't in your insurance's network...they won't pay. So the best thing to do is get a list of who your insurance has contracts with and start looking there as any online websites to start...no sense going to a lot of time and aggravation to only find out your insurance won't cover expenses from some place it didn't have a contract with. It took me 2 months of back and forth with the online supplier that I found who would supply the Bleep to me and file my insurance....only to find out my insurance wouldn't work with them. Bummer. 2 months wasted.

In the meantime there are many newer mask out there now. Take a stroll through all the masks at the cpap.com link I gave you for the AirTouch N20...there might be something else that peaks you interest. You don't have to buy from them unless you want to but you can get ideas from their product pages and go back to your regular DME with the new idea.

I am surprise that the ESON 2 is noisy with the filter. I haven't personally tried that model but I have tried other F & P models that have that optional diffuser and it always made the mask pretty much silent. Do you know exactly where the noise is coming from? Maybe something is not quite correctly connected.

If you really want to go rogue...look at the mask I use. Link in my equipment profile. No headgear at all.

I think you may be miss informed, the version of the mask before Comfort Gel was ended a couple of months ago. If I ;iled the mask, i'd stock up now even if I had to use my own money, rather than playing the pig in the poke, maybe this will work game. Prices in the link seem quite good. I have a full stock of the gel and it's father, to last me and Murphy and his friends. Jim

Well we just met with the DME therapist. He's going to try the ResMed Airfit N20 next. It seemed quiet in the office so we'll see tonight how it works in the real world. It's SO hard to find a mask that works well - we've had the ComfortGel for over 10 years. Makes me so sad that they aren't making it anymore.

Went from Comfort Gel Blue full face to the F & P Vitera full face

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... k-one-size

Seals good no leaks, usually have trouble finding a full face that seals good

After wearing our home-made leather or vinyl face masks for several months--comfortably,
I am toying with converting a vinyl version to use as a full face cpap mask.
It would be the first full face mask I have ever found usable.
Road Warrior cpap mask--kind of has a ring to it.
