Ought air be exiting where the elastic headgear is attached to the nasal pillow?

Post by antinatalism » Wed Jul 29, 2020 10:57 am

Please see the picture below. I've indicated with green arrows air's exiting. 2 days ago, I bought ResMed's AutoSet for Her. It reported a leak of 14L/hr. I was gifted an AirFit P10 starter pack, and am using the Small.

A teeny volume of air is streaming out of my nasal pillow, not around my nose, but rather at the juncture where the Elastic Headgear is fastened to the Nasal Pillow.

1. Is this normal?

2. What's this juncture called?

I suspect what you are feeling is air from the normal vent holes which are right next to the place you pointed to with your arrow.
So yes...this is normal. All masks vent in some way or other. It's a needed feature so that we don't keep rebreathing our own exhaled breath. You don't want to keep rebreathing your own breaths because it is full of carbon dioxide.

The half moon-shaped area is implanted with a fine plastic screen,
which diffuses escaping air so that it may be difficult to tell exactly where it is coming from.
The gray piece is heat-sealed to the frame--the transparent plastic may look open--but is not.

Just make sure it escapes from the front and not the back.

The Resmed Airfit P10 in your picture is my mask I use daily, I did a thread just recently on the P10 and showed some magnified close up of the weave with my USB magnifier at around 400 X. I took the picture off my computer screen because for what ever reason I could not down load the software file.
download/file.php?mode=view&id=12507
Your mask air exhausts through the weave and that is why it is so quiet and will not blow on arm or sleeping partner and bother them.
