can't find distilled water? What can I do?
Re: STICKY...can't find distilled water? What can I do?
Can anyone recommend an inexpensive good Distiller I can purchase on Amazon? There's a bunch, and would prefer to have firsthand experience from someone who uses. Thanks in advance. I may have to buy a Zero Water pitcher in the short term.

I haven't had a problem getting distilled water in the store, but reading this thread in preparation, if it disappears from the shelves. Couple of questions...
If you wash the water tank on the daily basis, that should prevent buildup, no?
Does filtered tap water help preventing buildup? Probably not since filters mainly remove the chlorine and leaves the minerals.
TIA...

1} for the most part, yes, but not totally. A little mineral buildup is not a problem.Prosleep wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 6:34 amI haven't had a problem getting distilled water in the store, but reading this thread in preparation, if it disappears from the shelves. Couple of questions...

2) depends on the filter, some remove minerals too.

Re: STICKY...can't find distilled water? What can I do?
My respiratory company told me to boil tap water and that's how it becomes distilled. I asked about bottled water and they said, "No". Just boil tap water and there will be no issues. They said, "NEVER USE TAP WATER without boiling it first.

Re: STICKY...can't find distilled water? What can I do?
Well....that is NOT how water becomes distilled...so they are either lying or stupid.
And because of that fact I wouldn't believe anything else they told me.
There's a process where the boiled water condenses and you catch the condensation and THAT tiny part you catch is the distilled water. Just plain boiling it doesn't make it distilled.

That's nice, they're full of crap.
Lesson 1, don't believe *ANYTHING* that your "respiratory company" tells you, verify everything.
Boiling tap water is *STUPID*, it serves no purpose whatsoever, and will actually make the problem *WORSE* (mineral deposits).

Instructables and youtube have numerous DIY solutions that are simple snd AFFORDABLE.

Distillers are getting back in stock on Amazon... get one of those Megahome distillers. They make them in Taiwan so you know they're better quality than the Chinese crap.

I am just going to use tap going forward and give it a wash with a 1:1 of white vinegar & water to get any scaling removed once or twice a week cause we have hard water here.

Refreshing seeing people read advice given within the topics and give it a go, instead of asking questions, and picking fights because it doesn't fit into their already established narrative.

In the long run its cheaper too. Get a gallon of white vinegar for like 2.50 and only need too use a small amount each week or buy distilled over and over say 1 a week generously .89 x 4 that's 3.56 and that's on the low side.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 1:15 pmRefreshing seeing people read advice given within the topics and give it a go, instead of asking questions, and picking fights because it doesn't fit into their already established narrative.

I need to revisit the Asian store.
They have loads of awesome stuff there.
I have to ask questions when there's no English on the label.
My supply of fried red scallions is getting low--dang, that stuff is GOOD!
