Noisy Intellipap

Post by sionghua » Mon Mar 16, 2020 4:33 am

Hi,

I am using an IntelliPAP which is advertised as 26dba, but when I actually measure it using a sound level meter from where I sleep (1m away from the machine), it's actually up to 50dba. This confirms my complaint that it's very noisy. Is this normal?

Based on your sound level meter, it's higher than the companies ad! It could be your meter is bad, miss set or your test room is different.

You could take it in for repair, or buy one that is quieter. I wouldn't even hear it running, me A'C, Fan, or T.V. would easily be a higher noise level. So for me, it wouldn't be a issue. Maybe that's one reason they are cheaper and not Number 1 or 2 in sales. Jim

What is the background noise level with the machine not being on but meter in the same place?

How old is it?
Has it always been this noisy?
Are you sure you are measuring the machine and not air venting from your mask?
Have you been using a SoClean or some other Ozone based sanitizer?
Are you brand new to CPAP? Those who are brand new are often very easily sensitive to noises as they struggle to sleep.

Since you joined the forum nearly 13 years ago, please inform us to the age and condition of the Intellipap.

I have been using CPAP for 13 years, but the machine is only 3 years. It has always been this noisy since new. It's much noisier than my previous machine. Haven't check background noise, will do so.

Haven't used any SoClean or anything like that. Does it help?

No, it can be the cause of noisy machines, ozone is incompatible with some materials.

Meter seems to show the background noise around 30dba.

You have to remove the back ground noise levels from things to get the actual machine noise levels.
Seems like your machine is actually fairly quiet if you remove the back ground noise level from the numbers.

I did this same test a while back. I was really amazed at the back ground levels of noise in my house being picked up by the meter.
