One year my dad . . . fragrance was heavenly . . . I still remember that smell.
My dad never smelled that great, as I recall.
Mine either. The tree was remarkable, though.

Their fruitcake is pretty good too, lots of pecans and walnuts, and a hint of caramel and rum
I prefer the fruitcakes from a small monastery in Kentucky. Their fruitcakes are laced with bourbon. They also put bourbon in some of the fudge they sell.

I prefer the fruitcake from Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, TX. It tastes just like my Mother’s. Now that I’ve got a Costco local to me, I’ll have to try their fruitcake, and eggnog. Neither are friendly to a diabetic. Will have to practice moderation.

I found myself eating fruitcake for specific ingredients.
Instead, I buy the dried Montmorency cherries and natural pecans.
Skipping the cake entirely, I have a relatively lighter handful of flavor.
A little hits the spot--without the carb overload.

Well, yeah... Collin Street Bakery fruitcake is delicious... my brother tried the Costco fruitcake and said "well, it's not better than the Corsicana fruitcake... it's different... good in it's own right. There's less cake in the costco one than it appears, because they piled the fruit, and nuts (expensive) on top.. plus it costs something less than half what the Collin Street Bakery ones cost.

The egg nog up here is from Sarah Farms in El Paso... it's got a good rich flavor... at first I thought 'this tastes a little strange"', then I realized "that's the nutmeg I taste.... check the ingredients list... it's very short... (which is a great sign)

We always made our own eggnog--fresh raw milk, fresh eggs, vanilla.
My mom always used nutmeg.
When my kids were in school, I fed them a lot of eggnog for breakfast.
Yes, I gave my kids RAW eggs--but we didn't know no better forty years ago.

Nobody got sick--probably because they didn't know they were "supposed to".

Even now, the chances of getting sick from a raw egg are vanishingly small... you've got a far better chance of getting into a car wreck (1 in 77) than you do getting sick from raw eggs (1 in 20,000).

Of course, we can pasteurize our eggs in the sous vide without cooking them.
I think that is so cool.
Cookie dough you can eat raw--if you want.
Or give to the kiddies.
Or slurp the slimy straight like Rocky.

My aunt used to have 1/2 of her hens laying pasteurized eggs, half the hens would leave them in the grass by the woods. we got to hunt them every day. Jim

We had to round the hens up at dusk and shut them in the chicken coop overnight.
Otherwise they would roost in the grove, where the weasels could get them.

Yup, yet another great use for sous vide. :)
