Plastic inside mouth to stop leaks?

Post by Weef23 » Wed Nov 13, 2019 7:04 am

Hi all,

I seem to remember someone posting a new product to keep you from mouth breathing. I remember it as a piece of soft plastic that goes in front of your teeth behind your lips and seals your mouth from the inside. I'm sort of imagining it as a piece of plastic in a credit card shape but a bit longer but I don't remember seeing it.

I tried every variant of keyword I could think of to search for the product on the forum but no luck. Does anyone remember this product and was it at all successful?

I'm getting so tired of taping my mouth and tearing off skin in the morning. And the mouth guards and head gear didn't help either since it's just flaccid lips not opening my mouth.

Hopefully someone else remembers this product and can point me towards it. Thanks!!

sorry, i don't remember it.

if it doesn't come up, have you tried this alternative to taping?

good luck!

I am in Central Florida but huh that is very intriguing! Wonder what it costs.

I've heard Austin is a fun city so maybe a visit in the future would be a good idea! Thanks for the suggestion!

Often these things just go away on their own.
The muscles in my airway learned how to behave.
Not enough to eliminate apnea--but enough to deal with therapy.

If your current mask is doing well and not leaking excessively but mouth leaks are the issue, you could try the Oracle 2 mask.
The mouth piece has and inner and outer flap system the effectively seals the air in. To make this work you need to:
Get an Oracle mask, discard everything but the inner and outer flaps. This leaves a giant hole in the middle - you need to plug that up. What you are left with is just the functional parts of what looks like a Scuba diving mouth piece.
Then get a soft cervical collar to suppor your jaw during the night.
Mask up wth with your regular mask,
Place the Oracle Mask mouth piece in,
Put on the cervical collar,
and go.

I've never run across anything like the piece of plastic you mention but this might get you there.
The only thing I am able to find is SomniFix® Mouth Strips

If I knew how to glue things to silicone, I'd send you just the inner flap with the hole in it sealed - but I don't know how.

Just an Idea that may or may not work.

Hope you find the gizmo you're looking for. Have you tried any of the self help tips about training your tongue to stay suction sealed to the roof of your mouth, and positioning yourself so that gravity works for you instead of against you? The tongue tip alone turned me from one who used chin straps, tape, cervical collar, denture adhesive, etc. to one who needs no aids to keep my mouth sealed. I may just be a lucky one but wouldn't hurt to try.

Have you tried this tape? Every other tape removed my skin or left a residue, but this one works for me.

What about a sports mouth guard? I had one where you boil and bite down on. You can get them for $5-$15 almost anywhere.

Denture adhesive.
Very effective, if used right.
Trim it down good, too much can get messy.
I woke one morning with poli grip creeping toward my ear.
