Tonight's the night

Post by major_works » Fri Dec 08, 2006 12:31 pm

I'd posted here a couple of weeks ago to say hello... had been prescribed CPAP at a pressure of 9 cm. After a few weeks of hand-to-hand combat between my insurance co. and Apria, I'm now in possession of a CPAP setup.

So tonight is the night I've been waiting for: my first night on CPAP at home.

I ended up with a REMstar Plus w/ C-Flex and Mirage Swift mask. Surprisingly, the machine came with the smartcard module and a card, despite the fact that my doctor told me he wasn't into that stuff. I don't have the reader or software. Does anyone know if I'd have to show CPAP.com my prescription to purchase them? They're no good to anyone without the machine, obviously.

The Apria tech disabled C-Flex using the menus. I presume this is something I can pretty easily undo. I haven't looked at the machine since leaving there or at the documentation.. I'm sure they'll tell me how to do this.

So wish me luck. I can't wait for bedtime!

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but the machine you have does not record efficacy data(i.e., AHI, Pressure, etc.) , just compliance data(hrs. used).

But to answer your question, no, you would not need a prescription to order the software and reader from cpap.com.

If you want a machine that has data recording capability, the minimum machine you want is the Respironics M Pro I believe.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks, Jack. You may have just saved me $175 or so.

I find that I may have put the wrong machine in my profile. It's the M Series Plus with C-Flex, and not the REMstar Plus. Am I still out of luck on the data?

You're welcome.

Yes, I'm familiar with your machine, as that's what I started out with back in May when I started out on this adventure. And yes, you are still out of luck. Sorry.

I am not really sure why Apria and your insurance had any hand to hand combat over that machine. It is basic vanilla CPAP.

You might want to look into a Pro M or Pro2 for data recording.

When I was at Apria, I was chatting with the nice lady who had the appointment after mine. She has the same carrier as I do (Cigna) and said the same thing happened for her.

Thanks for the advice, Snoregirl. I'll see how this goes for a while.

Meanwhile, does anyone have any thoughts on the Apria tech's disabling of C-Flex? Is this something I can undo myself if I decide to?

To para-quote GoofyUT, whatever you do, DON'T hold down the two arrow buttons while plugging the machine in!! This will not put you in the setup mode to enable C-Flex.
