I recently joined the CPAP world and this site has been an enormous resource of useful information. I have been reading the posts for a few weeks now and have made my decisions on the responses that I have seen here. Before I get into my issue, I just want to thank everyone on the board for taking their time and answering questions for newbies like myself. So thank you.
Last week I received my ResMed AirSense 10 and was extremely excited to use it. My events per hour dropped from 48.6 to .8 on my first night and I (as well as my spouse) immediately felt the benefits of a quieter and better nights sleep.
Over the last 8 days, my AHI has been: .8 - .5 - .4 - .8 - 1.5 - 1.4 - 1.1 - 1.8
Now, I wasn't expecting it to drop to 0, but I was also not expecting it to increase so much either, especially when the first 4 nights were so good.
Is this normal? Should I just wait another week or two to see how it goes?
I am currently using the AirSense 10 with the humidifier and switching between the AirFit P10 and the Dreamwear Nasal mask (not the pillows but the one that just sits under the nose and has one opening for the air).
Question Regarding Increase in Events
Re: Question Regarding Increase in Events
Welcome to the forum.
It's normal for the AHI to vary nightly....sometimes a little and sometimes a lot (and yours is varying a little...far from a lot).
We simply don't sleep the same each night. We might have more time on our backs where it is more common for OSA to worsen...we might get more time in REM sleep where it is common for OSA to worsen.
We might have nights where we have a lot of wake ups and thus an increased chance for false positive awake breathing flags.
The machine doesn't know if we are awake or not. All it measures is flow rate or breathing and often awake irregularities in breathing will cause false positive flagging.
Even after 10 years on cpap I still have widely varying AHI nights sometimes. Might have 0.5 one night and 3.5 the next night.
But a variance of just 1....that's entirely normal and especially for a newbie who probably has some awake flagged stuff happening.

Thank you for the reply.
Glad to know I'm not developing some sort of a tolerance for the therapy. I'm loving this machine and would hate to have some negative results discourage me from using it.
