CPAP Brings Longer Life for Those With Sleep Apnea
CPAP Brings Longer Life for Those With Sleep Apnea
This is good news, especially since earlier studies questioned whether CPAP really improves cardiovascular outcomes. Of course, this is a study of overall longevity, not focused specifically on cardiovascular risks.
There is a 62% reduction in the odds of death occurring in the first eleven years of CPAP usage (as opposed to non-usage). The statistics are adjusted for health risk factors such as heart disease, weight, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Since it's an eleven year study, I think that this automatically eliminates those who are not fully compliant.

I'm coming up on twenty. I don't suppose that invalidates the study
Re: CPAP Brings Longer Life for Those With Sleep Apnea
I have been treated with XPAP for about 32 years now, and though I a sorta "High Maintenance" person by now, I am nominally healthy and still hanging in there at age 88. I suppose I have certainly outlived the expected lifespan. I remain grateful for my original diagnosis and treatment all those years ago. And I have seen several of my friends who were similarly diagnosed and DIDN'T stick with treatment pass away.

Interestingly, there are also "studies" which reach the opposite conclusion.
It takes a while for "professionals" to get caught up.

Sometimes it seems the only true goal of research is to be published and pat one another on the back...chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 6:19 pmInterestingly, there are also "studies" which reach the opposite conclusion.

Who would have thought that if you have sleep apnea and sleep more than 50% of the night with the mask not on your face, that your health will continue to decline.
