Airfit F30

Post by Gerryk » Fri Apr 05, 2019 5:05 am

When I got my new machine, I got a new mask. I had a Quattro and now have an Airfit F30. First night I had problems with leaks, and the cushion just appeared to be to big for my nose. I went and got the smaller cushion and it felt better Immediately. I fell asleep fairly quickly but woke up a little before my normal times with another mask leak in the upper part of the mask. My nose also felt slightly dry and sore as if it had been pushed up last night, the soreness I think will go away as I get used to this mask. However the humidifier chamber was nearly out of water again.
YesterY the clinician said I had three major leaks between 1 am and 230 the previous night but nothing to rip through that kind of water in the chamber. The humidity in my bedroom was below 50% last night, I normally keep it higher because of the cpap. Does this machine go through a lot of water like this with the heated hose or should I worry more about these leaks. The clinician did state he wished most of his clients had the results I had with as few mask leaks.

The greater the leak, the greater the water consumption.

Also, the higher the pressure, the greater the water consumption.

What are your pressure settings? If using a range, at what pressures does the machine spend the most time?

Yeah, most of his clients haven't educated themselves with cpaptalk.com like you have educated yourself. :!: :!: :D

I am only using the phone app at this time and after I get home from the gym will look into the software. My machine is set to run between 9 and 15. Will find out more later.

I downloaded and set up sleepy time software but found my machine didn’t have an Ed card in it. I put one in and some of the data from the last two nights was there but nothing useful. Looks like it ranged between 11 and 13.

I just got the F30 yesterday. I loved the cushion under the nose, but the medium mouth cover seems to be too small for me. Maybe it's normal, but I can feel the edges of the cushion just inside the corners of my mouth and it drives me nuts. Also the whole thing just seemed to be like a clamp keeping my mouth shut. I'll be returning it and sticking with the F20 for FFM. I think I'm going to try a nasal mask though - just have to figure out which one might work best for me.

I started out with the medium mask and switched to the small. The mouth part is the same size as far as I can tell, the difference is in the part that goes under your nose.

I've been using the F30 for about a week now, switched from Amara View. So far haven't slept thru the night due to leaks annoying me and waking me up. I end up taking it off. I'm having trouble figuring out how to adjust it right for me. I do like it though. One advantage is the exhalation port is under the mask, barely noticeable unlike Amara View which seemed to have a steady stream of air coming out at mouth level. I think from lying on my side, the air was being directed upwards by my pillow, toward my eye, as I've been having a really dry eyes lately and became aware of air blowing toward my eye. That's just a guess, but it's been better since I started using the F30.

When I put the mask on last night, it felt like I was wearing a helmet! Was super tight from the night before when apparently I was tightening it to try to control leaks. I know it's designed to "float" over your skin, allowing the cushion to inflate to create the best seal, but I'm having trouble with adjusing it. Any tips appreciated!

If you can get sufficient air through the nasal passages, clamping the mouth shut is a good thing. I adjust my Innomed Hybrid mask so the mouthpiece tends to keep my lips sealed shut.

My sinuses are not great which is why I went with the FFM in the first place. I was looking at my sleepyhead data from last night though and my leak rate with the F30 was sticking around 15 which isn't terrible, but I switched to the F20 for the second half of the night and I have almost no leakage with it. The reason I tried the F30 was to get the pressure off of the bridge of my nose, but I might try the memory foam for the F20 (I have the silicone cushion now) and see if that's better.

Well I gave it one more shot last night but only lasted a few hours with it because I keep waking up with leaks around my mouth. At one point I even clamped it down pretty good on the bottom and it still leaked and I was on my back. I realized though that even though I breath through my nose when I'm falling asleep, at some point my mouth falls open and that's when the leaks were starting. I'm really not big on the idea of mouth tape or a chin strap, so I think I'm going to try to find a similar mask that has a larger mouth option. Anyone have ideas?

If you can, contact your DME that have you the equipment and talk to them. Some are good and some not so good, hopefully yours is helpful and one of the better ones. Set up an appointment and go in and take your machine with, of course make sure the humidifier chamber is dry. A mistake or shortcut mane take is just having you try aaak on or just use low pressure. Ask them to help you adjust the mask at low pressure and at your higher pressure. Lay down on the floor and
Move from back to both sides. Sounds goofy, but do you sleep in a chair looking forward the way many DME’s have you positioned for mask fitting.

For me, the Airfit F30 saved me from quitting CPAP all together. The F20 felt like my Alien avatar and was miserable. The Airfit F30 was the answer and I have been 100% compliant since switching over.

No leaks, no irritation, or middle-of-the-night torture.

Highly recommended.

Have you watched the manufacturer's videos on youtube regarding fitting and adjusting? There are also some good ones by DMEs and others. I recommend starting with the manufacturer's videos and then watching three or four others. (Some of the others are bad.)

Also, are you practicing keeping the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth before you fall asleep and any time you wake up during the night?

Has anyone used both the Dreamwear FFM and Airfit F30 and can compare them?
