C-Pap S-9 Whistle
C-Pap S-9 Whistle
I already read about the things to do about the whistle on exhaling. But mine does it on inhaling. I tried using the small, medium and large pillow style masks. I have a beard and wouldn't shave it off for this sleep apnea. Anyway if I cover the exhale ports when I inhale, then the whistle goes away. But I can't keep my fingers on the exhale ports all night. I've tried ear plugs but then I can't hear the alarm when it goes off. I have had the mask replaced, still the same problem. I did trim my mustache just under my nose and that has seemed to quite the whistle a little but not entirely. So it's not in the machine that I can tell, but I will try covering up the machine with a pillow tonight.
ResMed will not let you talk to a technician there unless you are a provider. Which is no way to conduct business. My provider (The VA), hasn't a clue why the mask set up is whistling. I asked them to contact Resmed but they said no. So either I learn to put up with it, or nor use it. My cousin refused to use a machine or was never diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now he has passed away from sleep apnea according to the coroner's report. Just a week ago.
So, does anyone have any useful suggestions???

Re: C-Pap S-9 Whistle
So exactly which mask are you using?
And don't go blocking the vent holes/exhale ports....doing that can cause you to rebreathe carbon dioxide laden air that you exhale and it isn't good for you. In fact very bad for you.

- Update your profile to include your machine and type of pillow system
- Try a different pillow system
- Experiment with different tightness adjustments
- Keep your moustache trimmed closer

Re: C-Pap S-9 Whistle
Ok I have a Philips Respironics DreamStation. And a ResMed AirFit P10 Nazzle AirPillow mask. When I was playing with the air pressure a little I noticed that the less air pressure the less of a whistle I can hear. I haven't set up my phone yet to adjust the pressure so I'm not sure if I should do that or tell the VA doc to adjust it down. When I first started out with the machine in June 2018, It was set at 5.0, then at first recap session they boosted it to 8.0. They boosted it one day by remote to 12.0, then to 16.0. But in late September I had them lower it to 14.0. But the pressure is still too high. My machine has two controls that I can test. One is the humidifier adjustment from 1-5, and the other is the small button nexto the on-off switch which can go back to 5.0 pressure for testing. Well I did that and the whistle noise went away. But the doc told me that 8.0 under was not good for my "rem sleep". So I either have to live with the whistle or get her to change my pressure to a lower pressure.[img]

Re: C-Pap S-9 Whistle
I thought my whistle was coming from my pillows.
In reality, it was my NOSTRIL.
I giggled, blew my nose, and all was good.
Hope yours resolves as easily.

Your title says CPAP S9 Whistle...It is not the CPAP S9 with the problem...You said it's the mask...which you said is a Respironics Dreamstation.. I know you said it's not the machine, but double check the seal around the humidifier cover.bdraptor wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:42 amI already read about the things to do about the whistle on exhaling. Re: C-Pap S-9 Whistle
On the off chance you're not aware of how to adjust the tightness of your p10:
The p10 nasal pillow system has limited adjustment options. Consider the following:
The p10 nasal pillow system has limited adjustment options. Consider the following:
- spread the headgear split apart to loosen the pillows
- bring the split together to tighten the pillows
- you can also move the pair to loosen/tighten
- place the clips it came with on the headgear to further tighten
- wash the headgear in hot water and dry occasionally. They have a tendency to loosen up and this will bring them back to their original springiness
