That feature does not make that sound.

"whoomp, whoomp, whoomp"
Check the hose size setting - SlimLine / Standard

Check the mask setting - Full Face / Nasal / Pillows

These could have been overlooked by the doc's office.

Good point on this. Even if all these settings are "correct," consider the possibility that one or more of them were wrong on the loaner, and the "wrong" setting(s) in question hit your "sweet spot."

I don't know if this is the problem but try it.

Disable the auto-off (or auto-on/off if they're combined). It's possible that the machine is mistakenly detecting that you've removed the mask.
Don't bother trying what DH says.
I didn't even say that I thought this was the problem. I said to be sure to rule it out (or possibly in). This is a very simple thing to try.

Also, wouldn't the OP look foolish is (s)he dismissed this on your say-so, and it did turn out to be the problem?
You suggest stupid things. The machines 'mask off' functions are so sensitive that even having the wrong mask type can trick them into thinking that it's just a large leak when the mask is off.

Your stupid suggestion just muddles the waters, which is what you do best.

Please do everybody a favor AND STOP POSTING! (or, better yet, go help out on apneaboard.)

Around 45 minutes to an hour after wearing it, it starts doing this "whoomp, whoomp, whoomp"
I think you received a bum machine. These things do get damaged in shipping. Mine was. The first night, it was burning something awful. The replacement and the subsequent backup machine purchase are silent with no odor at all. Only my mask makes noise. The exception is when I fail to fully close the humidifier before sticking it into the unit.

If a machine is working fine for an hour or two...and it suddenly starts making noises that it didn't make before...something is wrong with the machine IMHO. If it was a setting...then it should do it from the beginning. If the wrong hose is selected the problem would happen immediately. If the mask setting was wrong...it would happen immediately which couldn't be a factor anyway because choosing the wrong mask won't make the machine make loud noises...been there and done that and it just won't.

Regarding the auto off/on feature. No where in any scenario does it make any loud "whomp, whomp, whomp" noises.

In other words, is water collecting in your mask or hose? That is what we call rain-out.

Just a little water collecting can make an amazingly big sound.

Water in the hose will make a lot of racket and it takes very little water in the hose to make some awful noise.
Just make sure where the noise is coming from..is it the machine or the hose or something else.

Wondering if ramp is set to 45 minutes. Mine was initially. After 45 minutes, it moved to my full pressure (CPAP) and I woke up, turned machine off and then on in an endless loop for the first 4 nights, then blessedly on night 5 I slept through the change to full pressure.
