SmartCard corruption

Post by CG » Sat Nov 04, 2006 3:39 pm

I use a Respironics BiPAP Auto, and use the "Infineer" SmartCard reader sold for the Respironics and the v 1.6.22 EncorePro software to track my treatment.

I am now on my 4th SmartCard because the previous 3 became corrupted. One corrupted while running the BiPAP; and the other two while using the reader--fortunately after all data downloaded.

The EncorePro software yields a diagnostic to "reformat the SmartCard using 'Card Utilities'." When I attempt this I simply get the same corruption error, so have to discard the SmartCard and buy a new one. (by the way, this is 3 corrupted cards in only 6 months.)

Has anyone else experienced this and/or found a solution?

I am having the same problem--I've ruined two cards somehow. They cannot be erased and re-setup, since encore pro cannot write to the card to erase/set them up. Getting a new card seems to be the only thing I can do. I'm wondering if we've gotten bad card readers. My husband thinks so. I emailed the company in HK where I cbought the card reader, fwiw. Perhaps you should too?

Just a thought, but are you by any chance pulling the card from the machine while it's still running? I always turn mine off before pulling the card and haven't had a problem over the six months or so that I've been on CPAP (knock, knock).

What do you mean? When I put the card in, the light on the card reader turns green while the card is being read. I assume once it turns back to red, it is safe to remove the card? Am I right?

If you guys have installed the MAKO Infineer card reader "software" that could be your problem.

It is the 2800.sys driver. The one from Respironics has been modified with the encrypted key to access the card, the 2800.sys driver from MAKO does not.

You have to uninstall the current driver and reinstall the one from the EncorePro CD-ROM ONLY. Windows makes a copy of the driver in dllcache so you have to be sure to remove that one as well.

The SmartCard has security built-in. If the unlock password doesn't work it disables the card (card is not bad just disabled).

Install the new driver (reboot after uninstalling and after reinstall). Insert bad card, Erase it, then run Setup of the card using your profile.

SmartCard Corruption

Post by CG » Sat Nov 04, 2006 4:12 pm

Removing the card improperly has not been my problem. One corrupted during the night while the BiPAP was running...not upon removal. The other two corrupted immediately upon downloading the data into EncorePro...before attempting to remove the card.

That said, for safety sake I do unplug the BiPAP before card removal and close EncorePro before removing from the reader...there is no windows "safe removal" selection for this card reader.

I am going to try the "do not erase after download" option and do the erasure in "setup" instead. I don't know how much data the card will hold but I run the card for a month between downloads.

I think he's referring to the CPAP machine and not the card reader, Sarah and CG. I wish I had some ideas for you. I've used the same card for the last year and a half, along with the Infineer card reader (also purchased from two-factors in HK) and have never had to reformat it once, let alone use a new one.

My guess would be that you either got a faulty card reader, OR that there's some problem in the way your CPAP/BiPaps are writing to the card. Given the faulty data people have seen coming from the M Series machines so far, that wouldn't surprise me, if either of you have the M Series.

Edit: That's a good idea, Snoredog. Reinstalling the driver is a lot easier than trying to replace faulty hardware. Try that, you two, if you haven't already, and see what happens.

I am running the correct driver software, and never installed the one that came with the card reader, so that isn't the problem.

SmartCard Corruption

Thanks Snoredog...I don't remember if I installed the MAKO software, I did whatever the instructions with the EncorePro said to do. But I will uninstall the driver and reinstall as you suggest! Maybe I can resurrect my bad card!

The DT3500 installer program that is correct for the Encore Pro software will be an ".exe" program and have a file size of 6,507 kb if you select "View"\"Details" in the folder options.
If you right-click on it and select "properties", it should say Size: 6.35 MB (6,663,063 bytes)

"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

I have the DT3500 too. I cannot erase the card on my desktop, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the software and I still cant get it to work.

As I have a laptop and the s/w is installed their too, I use it to erase the card. I have emailed Mako's tech support several times and they havent replied back and it sounds like they won't.

In my case, I stopped the downloading of my data one time as it took a long time, so I thought something was wrong (maybe there was) and that messed things up. So, now I use the desktop to save the data and i back it up to my laptop every now and then.

What I have found is that if you try to erase the card, the card becomes corrupt. So, as long as I dont erase the card on my desktop, I am fine.

If anyone knows of a fix, please let us know.

Could be a USB buss port power issue. If you have any other devices plugged into the USB port they will rob needed 5VDC power. If you have anything else plugged into the USB port you might try unplugging it.

The older DT3500 serial reader I have requries a PS2 style keyboard port so it can get the needed power. You don't need as much power to Read the card as you do to Write to the card.

YAY! Snoredog--you are a genius! It works now. My card reader was hooked up to one of the many usb ports on our monitor (DH built the computer), and there are lots of others plugged in there, too, for the various devices we use. Once I moved it to a port on the computer itself (near where the cds go in) it allowed me to do the setup, and now the card goes into the CPAP machine w/out beeping!!! (I had to reinstall the mako stuff--there was a wizard, and I just said yes to everything....)

Thank you so much!!! I'll retrieve my previous, supposedly dead, card from the trash and get it fixed, too. You are great!

Yep! That was a known issue. Glad he thought of it. I didn't think it would even work at all unless it was plugged into the motherboard ports.

SVH, good for you. I at least have another computer to use and I know how it would be if I couldnt get my data or my smartcard wasnt working.

Snoredog, I already thought about that but I t hought i would try it again. Nope. I get the same error message: "
there was an error communicating with your smartcard. check your operations and try again. error number: 8004020D".
Now, I have to turn on my laptop and format my smartcard.
