Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
This is a rare event but last night my hose detached from the mask at some point and I woke up with the mask strapped to my face, minus hose. I have no idea how long this persisted.
Is there any workaround for reducing the chances of this happening (apart from the obvious of sleeping facing the PAP side of the bed and making sure it is fitted as snugly as possible)?
And now hazardous is this situation? It has left me feeling crud after two better nights and days when I went away for the weekend.

Re: Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
I had that happen a while ago with the heated hose on my ResMed machine. I had been disconnecting the mask (ResMed P10) from the hose daily and the hose fitting had become stretched. I replaced the hose and the disconnect issues disappeared.
I now only disconnect the hose every week to 2 to swap mask/headgear . I have 2 masks so I can wash and dry one without worry about having to use headgear before it has fully dried.

Re: Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
be glad the hose pulled off and you didn't pull the machine from where it is sitting onto the floor. my hose has pulled out from time to time. it is not life threatening. the worst thing is you are breathing room air unfiltered without cpap pressure. don't worry about it unless it starts happening regularly.Chalkie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 9:12 amThis is a rare event but last night my hose detached from the mask at some point and I woke up with the mask strapped to my face, minus hose. Do you remove your mask from your hose to clean it, if so how often? Jim

Re: Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
Every full face mask has a special silicone valve that opens when you breathe without cpap air flowing.
When I used that model (only full face) mask, we had a power outage.
I calculate I slept at least 3 hours unassisted before I woke up.
Aside from the usual effects of sleeping without my cpap running, I was OK.

It's even better if the hose comes off of the mask, you don't draw the breathed air back in the mask. Jimchunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:25 amEvery full face mask has a special silicone valve that opens when you breathe without cpap air flowing.

Re: Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
Goof proof--what are you talking about?
The A-A valve BYPASSES the hose; and exhaled air (containing CO2) exits via the air vents ON THE MASK.
The hose only contains room air, plus maybe water vapor from the humidifier.

Re: Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
If the hose detaches there is a hole where you will breathe in room air..not CO2. Not hazardous at all. Try it..just put on your mask without the machine and breathe...Besides...You are using a nasal mask. All you need to do is open your mouthChalkie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 9:12 amThis is a rare event but last night my hose detached from the mask at some point and I woke up with the mask strapped to my face, minus hose. +1 This same thing happened to me awhile back , about 2 hours. The mask has a Anti-Asphyxia Valve to take care of problems like this.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:25 amEvery full face mask has a special silicone valve that opens when you breathe without cpap air flowing.

I avoided the word anti-asphyxia because some people only see the last word--and freak out.

We all get a FAIL, she uses a ComfortGel Nasal Mask, I'm guessing they have a mouth to breath thru. Jimchunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:43 amGoof proof--what are you talking about?

Not all, likely the hose connector is stretched, as I stated,Goofproof wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 1:19 pmWe all get a FAIL, she uses a ComfortGel Nasal Mask, I'm guessing they have a mouth to breath thru. Jimchunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:43 amGoof proof--what are you talking about?

Re: Hose detahced from mask - breating CO2
The reason you felt rotten in the morning isn't that you were breathing in CO2, it's because your apnea was untreated for all that time the hose was off.
I have a contraption that hangs my hose over my head with a pulley system to give more length when I turn over away from the machine. There's almost no stress on my hose connection at all. Mine is homemade, but if you look up "hose management" on our host CPAP.com you'll see a few options.
