History of Respiriatory Equipment (including CPAP)

Post by D.H. » Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:10 pm

I guess that since I was looking a tracheostomy in the face, it never really dawned on me.

Historically, respiratory was only used by patients who were critically ill or chronically disabled. Thus, there is a very negative association between respiratory equipment of any kind. Note that they were not sure that the first CPAP patient would make it through the night (he did live thirty-five more years due to CPAP).

This is a big psychological barrier for new CPAP patients.

Do you drink alcohol? Smoke dope? Inhale whatever?

What the hell does that note mean?

I certainly have no negative view of PAP equipment, as far as other respiratory assistance devices, I see them as serious medical equipment, but not negatively at all. As far as I can tell, people with dire and negative views of PAP equipment have not lived 40 years sleep deprived with all that entails. To me, CPAP is a pure and simple joy.

And what IS that word in the title?

There are folks on this forum who post much more "stupider" stuff. If you are going to pick on D.H., then you must include the others. Fits must acquit. Hey, just me.
