Great to know, thanks everyone.. I'll pick some up later this afternoon ...Jay Aitchsee wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 5:14 amYes, I've been taking magnesium bisglycinate for some time. For me, it seems to produce longer, calmer, more restful sleep with fewer CA's. I take 200mg at lunch and 200 mg before bed. I have noticed no other side effects. I chose one of the more popular brands on Amazon.

Re: OT: Glycine for sleep--cautiously optimistic
Yep, I already take that, too. I didn't think it made much difference until we ran out. That's what prompted my most recent search for a sleep aid because I didn't put two and two together until we got more magnesium glycinate and then it was clear that the reason my sleep got so bad was being without magnesium for nearly a week. But even with the magnesium supplement, my sleep is not that great.
So Friday night I did wake a few times, but easily got back to sleep. Last night I had a no wake night (I think, which is just as good as being certain). I think it may take a while to even out--what I'm looking for is consistently sleeping with no more than one very brief wakening--being able to sleep without any wakening will be a great bonus.

Re: OT: Glycine for sleep--cautiously optimistic
I saw you mentioning glycine again this week. There seems to be some science behind this idea.
I wonder why we don't hear about it much in the forum? Also, why do the major drug chains not stock it? Maybe they make more money off the multi-ingredient sleep supplements?
Re: OT: Glycine for sleep--cautiously optimistic

or are you getting "the good stuff"?
eta: i see amazon has 2 lbs of it in powder form for $20.25.
that's 908 grams, right?
of course, i'm not springing for that quantity until i see if it works.

Re: OT: Glycine for sleep--cautiously optimistic
Here's a link to a Google search for"Safety of taking Glycine for sleep" that has many resources for anyone considering it's use. For what it's worth, in my opinion on it's own, it does appear to be safe and worth a try for sleep purposes. It might be useful to check the second link also for "Glycine interaction with health conditions and drug interactions." Consulting a doctor of pharmacist might also be appropriate. I plan to do all that and then if everything looks good, I'll give it a try.

I am still using it when I'm having issues with sleeping. Not every night. But it does seem to help, when I need it.

One small bag contains approximately 15 grams of glycine.

no progress. took it as planned but it had no affect.
of course, being christmas eve, a "bit" more wine went down my throat and that always affects my sleep.

Re: OT: Glycine for sleep--cautiously optimistic
I bought and have been taking some Glycine before bed. It has definitely improved my sleep, and from what I have read (due to this thread) it has other health benefits as well. Last night I slept for 10 hours, and woke up feeling great!
