Playing with pressure on ResMed AirSense 10

Ok, this may be a very dumb question, but I'm a bit confused. (Sorry guys, is my first CPAP device). My doctor recommended a pressure of 9cm as a treatment for me. I've purchased directly from Amazon a brand new ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet, and after reading the manual and watching a couple of videos, I'm a bit confused about how to set up the pressure dials. The CPAP comes by default with a minimum of 4, and a max 20 pressure presets. This means I have to move both dials (minimum and max) to 9 to match what the doctor prescribed me? Or since this is an auto CPAP model I should just let it that way and it will automatically provide me with the appropriate pressure along the night?

You have 2 modes of operation available.
So 2 choices for that 9 cm RX'd suggested pressure.
Auto mode...yes, you can set the minimum to equal max of 9 and that will give you what the doctor ordered.
Cpap fixed mode...just set to 9 cm.

It WILL change pressures all night long.
There's no guarantee that they will be "appropriate" to give you adequate or effective therapy.
APAPs change pressures primarily on the Flow Limitations and/or Snores (followed by Hypopneas and Apneas).
If the pressure can't get to what is needed to fend off Hypopneas or Apneas, they are going to occur anyway.
The optimal settings for an APAP is to set the minimum pressure to where it prevents almost all of the events from taking place.

For new users, I've always recommended that they TRY what the doctor recommended before experimenting on their own.

However, what I'd recommend is leaving it in auto mode, setting the minimum to 9, and max to 20, and seeing how it goes.

Frequently, the doctors initial guess is wrong.

Leave you minimum on 4, set your max to 9. If it has a flex set it to 3. You'll sleep with what you need up to 9. My low average is 6 my Max is 9. My settings are 6 and 11. I hardly see 11. If you don't need it your machine won't go there so set as I mentioned and see how you sleep.
