Resmed escape 2
Does anyone here have any experience with the technical side of cpap machine? I got this one as a gift from a friend, he said it was totally functional when he sent it. Well, the power cord woks(checked via meter), the power board inside works and outputs the 12vdc currents correctly (checked via meter) and the led seems like it should function, parts wise, obviously I did not check all the little fuses but nothing looks burnt on either of the boards, no solder breaks I can see and the led flex cable is plugged in correctly. Here is the thing though, it never powers up(comes on) when plugged in, I even thought maybe just lcd was burnt or something but progressing through button presses to turn on cpap does nothing. Any ideas? REsmed no longer supports this product, but it seems like it should function.

That's an S8 machine...vintage 2008-2012. Don't think there are many members using that machine, much less knowing the internals.Baudermonk wrote:Does anyone here have any experience with the technical side of cpap machine? (Have you checked your electrical outlet)?

Yeah I know it's an older machine but it's what I got. I checked the outlet yes. I just thought that this might be someplace cpap techs roamed, seems like it would be something simple because everything looks like it should function but it just isn't.
Re: Resmed escape 2
I looked to see if I had the service manual for that model but I couldn't find it.
I don't know if Den might have one or not...he has some service manuals for some of those old machines.
You might send Den a PM and ask him...he is Wulfman on the forum...been fishing a lot lately so I don't know if he will see your post here or not but I think he still gets notices if he gets a private message

You might call the people at acbio.com and ask them if they have any idea what might be going on.
They recently started handling repairs on ResMed machines so I don't know how much that might know about the older models.
http://acbio.com/
I don't know that I would put any money into sending it to them though...it's not going to have much value even if it can be fixed easily.
My first thought was maybe the power cord but you say you verified it seems to be working.
Beyond that idea I wouldn't have a clue. Sorry.

Look at your local Craigslist...you might find one for $50-$100. https://jxn.craigslist.org/hab/d/cpap-w ... 80485.htmlBaudermonk wrote:Yeah I know it's an older machine but it's what I got. If you are in need of a machine I have an old Goodknight apap with relatively low hours on it that I know for sure works and you are welcome to have it for cost of postage. It needs a good home where it can be used. I did verify that it worked for sure and it seems to work just fine.

Just a thought, ResMED, is screwy, many of their machines use 24 volt d/c not 12 volt, and I think i've seem mentioned the input pins are polarity are reversed.
Just a thought, not mine. Jim

Re: Resmed escape 2
The S8 has an issue with the on/off switch. After a while, or after long term storage it seems to act like it is corroded over and won't make contact.
If I remember correctly the solution is to find a repair kit for a TV remote.
Or, you can do repeated presses with a little twisting during the pressing to see if you can clean the contacts up.

Re: Resmed escape 2
If it is just the on/off switch there are several threads with instructions on how to fix it.
Here's one of those threads and it does mention the TV remote thing.

Re: Resmed escape 2
THanks for all the responses so far , but this machine does not even have an on/off switch. (From redmed info) You plug it in, the lcd lights up, you push one button to move to cpap and then it starts pumping for normal use. Now I have took the thing completely apart, the power cord is throughputting power to powerboard, powerboard is converting and throughputting to mainboard, mainboard is throughputting to lcd and pump, and no blown fuses I can find. But it does not come on, I even went so far as to think the lcd was blown and went through the steps indicated to change to cpap, nothing. IAm sure it has to be some little thing or some tech thing because everything else shows fully functional by the multimeter.
Re: Resmed escape 2
Sounds like a bad main pcb. I would have replaced the board to fix it. Only thing I can tell you is to unplug the blower from the circuit board to see if the blower is shorted. But all in all sounds like it really for the trash can.
