Weighted Blanket

Anyone ever found a weighted blanket to be helpful in reducing stress and anxiety so you can sleep better?

You mean like the ones you wrap your dog in for thunderstorms?

Yes, I love heavy blankets and being tucked in tight at night. It does help.

Look for wool Yoga blankets. They are really heavy, but also they are wool and breathe.

When I was a military brat kid we had heavy wool blankets on the bed and I liked to have the bed so tight I could barely slip in at the top of the sheet. Funny part--we lived on a tropical island (Okinawa) and I slept that way in the tropical heat.

Sounds like sleeping in my mother-in-laws house in the winter time. She had wood heat, so when bed time came, the fire went out and we slept under several quilts. That is a real weighted blanket.

I use two blankets all year around, one is electric, I also use a electric heating pad on the mattress. I run a 10,000 btu a/c in the bedroom all year around, with the house heat turned off in the room. Jim

I keep the bedroom at 63 to 75 degrees all night.

My 10year old daughter and I each have a therapeutic weighted blanket, and we sleep with them every night. MiniMe even takes them on sleepovers (which are rare). They do help her get to sleep more quickly, and mine definitely helps with more restful sleep.

It causes your body to release calming hormones (seratonin, if I remember right) and is the same concept as the weighted vests many autistic kids wear. My son has Aspergers and used a weighted lap blanket in school when he was in the elementary grades.

I definitely have to have some weight on me to fall asleep. I never knew why until I had an autistic child and did the research, but it explains why a heavy comforter and a weighted eye pillow have always been necessary for me at night!

Kind of like swaddling I guess.

CONCLUSION
The weighted chain blanket used in the present study had
a positive impact on sleep, both objectively and subjectively,
where a number of physiological and behavioral measures were
improved during weighted blanket use. When the participants
used the weighted blanket, they had a calmer night’s sleep,
with a decrease in movements. Subjectively, they believed that
using the blanket provided them with a more comfortable,
better quality, and more secure sleep. In conclusion, a weighted
blanket may aid in reducing insomnia through increased tactile
and proprioceptive inputs, may provide an innovative, nonpharmacological
approach and complementary tool to improve
sleep quality.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The study was supported by a grant from Somna AB ( a manufacturer of weight blankets).

My husband likes heavy bedding, especially over his feet.
Now it makes sense, because his mother absolutely swore by swaddling babies.
He can have all the blankets he wants, as I kick them off.

I just bought a weighted blanket and I really like it. I find it very comforting.

Interesting! I ordered one a week or so ago and should get it on Monday! I can't wait to try it out!
