I've been more or less successful using bipap for a couple of years now but something started happening a few months ago that I want to share with this community to see if any of you experienced the same thing.
I'll wake up at around 3 , make a bathroom run and not be able to go back to sleep. When I eventually get up a couple of hours later, I don't feel like I got all my sleep in.
Last night, when I awoke at 3, made the bathroom run, I didn't put the mask back on. I was able to go back to sleep.
Is it possible that since I've already gotten about 5 hours sleep that any noise such as the bipap machine is keeping me awake?
My plan is to put the mask back on and if I can't fall asleep within say 20 minutes, take it off and see if I can then fall asleep.
Thoughts?
Problem going back to sleep

you don't "sleep" without the machine, if you did, you wouldn't NEED the machine.JimP wrote:I've been more or less successful using bipap for a couple of years now but something started happening a few months ago that I want to share with this community to see if any of you experienced the same thing.

if you're having problems getting back to sleep, do like your ancestors did, get up,do some stuff for a couple hours, then go back to bed.. yeah, so you might need to go to bed earlier, to get in the amount of rest needed, but it'll be better for you, and you can get work/reading/hobbies done while it's quiet and there's no interruptions.

Re: Problem going back to sleep
Hi, I've had that same kind of problem with waking for a bathroom trip and unable to get back to sleep, before and after cpap.Last night, when I awoke at 3, made the bathroom run, I didn't put the mask back on. I was able to go back to sleep.

Since starting apap earlier this year, getting back to sleep has improved intermittently.
If I were you, I would see the sleep doctor. Maybe your prescription no longer works for you and a pressure change is needed.
I don't believe getting up during the night and doing other things works for everybody, it seldom made a difference for me.
But if you start feeling sleepy, (I don't) it could work.
What I do instead is try for 15-30 min with the machine and if you can't drop off, just get up for the day (yup that's what I do, at 3 or 4am.)
Then the next night, you will be more tired from your day and may be able to sleep longer and harder.
You've probably already tried no liquids after 6pm. I still have to get up for the bathroom regardless.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Problem going back to sleep
Lately, I wake up almost nightly before my intended wake-up time of 7:30. It is usually around 5:30 AM. I get up, remove the mask and chinstrap and change my wet T shirt. Next, I go to the bathroom to lightly wipe my eye lashes with faucet water and rinse my mouth with ACT. Then I go back to sleep without the mask and the machine. Most of the times I fall back to sleep and sleep for 2 more hours.
