Newbie here

Post by ganooch » Wed Apr 13, 2016 3:03 pm

Just picked up my CPAP from the Dallas VA this morning. Sat through a 45 minute class on how to use it, take it apart, clean it. I am just ready for a good night's sleep.

I had 58 events an hour at my sleep study. The good news is when they gave be the mask at the sleep study, I had 0 events for the duration of the evening.

I really am not looking forward to sleeping with something on my face and a hose coming off me for the rest of my life. I do know that I am always tired, to the point where I often feel I am about to fall asleep driving. When I watch TV with the wife at the end of a long day, I am often asleep before we get 5 minutes into a show. Apparently I snore so badly my kids can hear me on the other side of the house.

Here is to feeling better and more energetic tomorrow morning and every morning after that.

Congrats! I'm a newbie too but I've never snored. My husband did though before he got his cpap. Your wife is going to thank you in the morning!

Welcome. Hope the first night goes well. The feeling of "sleeping with something on your face" goes away. It's like getting contacts or glasses. At first you notice them, but soon you don't even notice. Heck, you are asleep most of the time you use it.
Finding the right mask, and comfort items help.
If the feel of the long hose bothers you, look at hose covers, called http://www.Snugglehose.com It makes the hose feel like the blanket. It also prevents the hose from making noise when it rubs on the furniture.
Another comfort item is mask liners and pads for the mask. They help with a softer feel on your face, rather than the mask on your skin. http://www.padacheek.com.

Good luck

Night one in the books. Made it through the night with the mask on the whole time. I feel surprisingly good, though it is still early. Real test will be how tired I am at the end of the day.

The bridge of my nose is sore as hell. I have a nasal mask. Think I will need to change to the nasal pillows. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Ganooch

Soreness on the bridge of your nose is a sign you may be wearing the mask too tight.
The edge of the cushion needs to fill with air, and rest gently on your nose and face
with no creases or wrinkles. Back up on those straps until the "airbags" fill up.
A small bandaid helped protect my nose when it was trying to make a blister.
The P10 nasal pillow is very popular here, but noses are different. Make yours happy.

Be sure to cover that spot on the nose at night. Your nose will eventually get use to it. I use a small bandaid and a strip of medical tape (on top of the bandaid).

You can also use a piece of moleskin. I used to use it when I used a FFM than went over my nose. I now use the amara view mask which doesn't rub the top of my nose.

Please fill in your equipment profile. People with the same mask as you may have the best suggestions.

Figured out this SleepyHead thing. Below are my results from night one. Concerned with leakage, but maybe I give it a couple of nights to see if I work it out as I get used to the mask. Any other thoughts here?

I have a full face mask that has an extra padded support that rest on my forehead. It is actually pretty comfortable. Maybe give that a shot!
