That many might be harmless if the hens had a proper natural diet, and plenty of exercise.
Imagine chicken treadmills in the battery cages. Or not.

And how many eggs were you eating?
About six to eight a day. About 80 in two weeks. When I told my doctor that he was in the middle of typing out a prescription for a statin; having heard what I just said he stopped typing and stared off into the distance, as if he was processing what I said.
I will not be denied my eggs - two large eggs every morning, plus, eggs used in cooking.

I'm in trouble, I like eggs too, Yokes, I use only Jumbo Eggs, I used to have a farmer come to the house door to door, he had some hens that always laid double yokes, he save them for me. It made my day, when his hens egg production, he would butcher them and sell them too, made the best noodles in the world, really free range.

My cholesterol was sky high, all my life, now after the Quad by pass I'm on a statin, Lipitor, my levels got so low I can have my eggs and other bad foods, and still have to cut the Lipitor pills in half.

The only real change I've made to my diet, was to cut out saturated fats, a nd I don't allow plastic butter substitutes in the house, just real Butter and lots of it, and I've replaces sugar with Honey, millions of Bees can't be wrong. Jim

I love the subject line. Vegetarian diets are also hard on the person too.

As suspected, the article was misrepresented by the press who fixated on the lettuce claim because it made for a good headline, it even made the honor of:

"Four Times When Journalists Read a Scientific Paper and Reported the Complete Opposite"

And the end of this article has an update that corrects some of the information being reported:

http://www.sciencealert.com/vegetarian- ... tudy-finds

The researchers did not find that vegetarians or vegetarianism are harmful to the environment, or that producing vegetables is more harmful to the environment than producing meat.

What they found, in light of the data they examined, is that producing some vegetables and other foods results in high use of natural resources – and that eating more of those foods (as recommended for health by the USDA) in two particular scenarios results in higher energy use, blue water footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.

One limitation of only looking at the per-calorie level of resources and emissions in foods, however, is that it doesn't necessarily reflect what people actually eat. As others have pointed out, some foods that require a lot of natural resources to produce – such as lettuce, for example – would likely never constitute the basis of a diet, vegetarian or otherwise, since they're so low in calories.

Other research suggests that eating less meat is a good thing for the environment. One previous study found that following a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet (no meat, fish, or poultry) would result in a 33 percent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, and vegan diets go even further, with a 53 percent decrease in emissions.

Lettuce is a worthless food compared to other vegetables, fruits and meats.

Two sounds more appetizing.
Two slices of bacon, cut into pieces, scramble a pair with that;
then lay that on top of a slice of baby Swiss on buttery skillet toasted bread.
Yum.
