Cpap and use of Mosquito Netting in Africa

Post by Slats » Tue Jul 21, 2015 1:01 pm

I will be traveling to Africa in a region where malaria ridden mosquitos are rampant and I will be required to use mosquito netting.I am trying to figure out how to accomplish this while using my cpap machine ( I would NEVER sleep without using my cpap).Has anyone had this experience and how did you accomplish this- it seems that the hose would have to penetrate the meeting and thus compromise the purpose of the netting???

Why not put the machine INSIDE the netting as well?

Why can't you simply keep the machine inside the netting with you?

If all else fails and the machine has to remain separated from you (outside the netting), then I'd feed the hose through a hole in the netting and then use some good tape around the hose and hole to keep the skeeters out. Or am I missing something obvious here?

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

If you end up with your machine outside the net...

Be sure to check your filter daily, or better yet find a way to attach a pre-filter.

Good question, but usually the mosquito netting and bed are in "fixed position" and unmoveable and electric plug is in another part of the room.So it is not an option.

So it would require putting a hole in the netting? The hotels and my various hosts would definitely not like their netting to be altered by a hole. Sorry if I am being dense-but am worried. I guess I could move machine into the netting- it is the electric cord that still would be the problem.

Thanks to all for your help-

Two things: What about supplying your own netting, which you can feel free to cut a hole in? Or if you just need more distance from the machine to the outlet in order to keep the machine next to you inside the netting, you could use a simple extension cord.

I think the disconnect here is that most people here don't know what mosquito netting looks like where you are going and the fact that electrical outlet would be outside the netting.

battery powered cpap, No hole in the net, no electric outlet to reach.

Most netting I've delt with tucks under the matress, it's not rocket science, a third grader could do it. I have faith you can find one. Thanks for the leg pull, you got lots of mileage off that one. My worst problem wasn't miscotters, it was scorpions. Jim

Thank you for helping to clarify. I don't know how to post a photo from a google image search, but essentially, it hangs from the ceiling in a canopy tent style and is made of very tight mesh. It is a serious concern for me.

I have no idea why you are so cynical, but if you read my reply above, you will see it is a serious concern.
