OMG, the GAS is HORRIBLE!
Does anyone have any really effective tips on avoiding aerophagia?
gas
It is usually self limiting and not a lasting problem with most.
Bipap or cflex may be helpful if not.
Some will come with gas-x and the usual antacids and anti gas suggestions.
These are totally worthless since it is AIR, not the metabolic gas.
Sitting up pr heat higher may help,

Thanks
Thanks for the real-world suggestions. I will try those and see if they help. I sure hope they do cause this is just painful!
Oh I know they work. I made the mistake of training my Jack Russell terror when he was a pup with cashews from Costco. He absolutely loves them, he would only jump 3 ft with regular doggie treats, with them cashews he jumps at least 5ft straight up (think of that Jim Carey movie). He can wave, roll over, lay down, stay do all that stuff, all from cashews.cpapjack wrote:Do cashews really work? Any idea as to how so?Snoredog wrote:lower pressure and cashews
After that is all done, then he comes and lays down by you on the couch, then suddenly you see him get up quickly and leave... about the time you realize this your eyes start watering over and you are the one rapidly leaving the room, outside is usually the safest place.
They work alright
And I read this as I'm eating lunch......Snoredog wrote:Oh I know they work. I made the mistake of training my Jack Russell terror when he was a pup with cashews from Costco. [quote="inacpapfog"]Report this to your doctor if it is a real problem for you!
After letting my doctor know, he ordered an apap for me.
Not another episode with aerophagia since!

I got an APAP this week because my AIH was still too high with my pressure set to 11 and, while I have had a little gas, NOTHING as bad as the extreme bloating I was experiencing with the CPAP. I also followed the suggestion of making sure my chin stayed as far away from my torso as comfortably possible and it seems to be helping as well. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Check out this site-and do make sure you read the last paragraph.

gas
You and Merck are technically correct.
Air is certainly a gas as all gasses are gas.
I try to differentiate between the metabolic type and ingested air as being considered different.
The fact remains that agents that are defrothicants as simethicone work by lowering the surface tension of microscopic gas boluses and let it become a big bolus that is then released from one end or the other.
I'm still gonna treat them as different for this reason.

Tomjax...did you read the LAST paragraph??
I was not disagreeing with you. When looking at the "end" result of gas produced during digestion and gas from swallowed air it hardly matters. And since I've never had anyone report a benefit from simethicone-it's use really doesn't really make much difference. I thought there might be some info in there that the poster could use in minimizing gas from other sources that could be eliminated (no pun intended this time). It was the last paragraph that I found particularly interesting-particularly in the Merck manual. I never knew the eds had a sense of humor that was expressed in this prestigious publication. Kay

wow
just went back and too am amazed that such an august publication would delve into bathroom humor.
But this is mild compared to some other inside humor terms such as OB GYN have in referring to varying sizes etc.
And to think someone had the audacity to castignate moi for innapropriate and gratituous rejoinders.
That is kinda like a blond joke in the bible- just doesn't fit.
guess I should not add the latest blond joke I heard-
will PM if requested
