New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
Hi all,
I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere, but I ran some searches and really couldn't find anything. I was diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea (AHI of 18) about a month ago and have been using a CPAP (or APAP, I guess) for about a week now. In the morning, I can view my "sleep report" directly on my machine, which includes last night's usage hours, events per hour, mask seal (just a smiley face), humidifier (another smiley face) and also some averages, like average pressure, leak, and AHI.
I'm wondering if there is someway I can view this data online (I know my machine has some type of internet connection; I can see the green bars in the upper righthand corner). I've read on here about the SleepHead software, but that requires removing the SD card and plugging it into my computer and, honestly, I don't care about seeing all that data (my average AHI has been under 1 with the CPAP, so I'm not too concerned about tracking every detail). I would just like to be able to view my nightly reports online to see how they change from one night to the next (rather than seeing an average). Is there a way to connect to the ResMed website to view this data? It doesn't look like there are any good mobile apps for this yet. Any suggestions are most welcomed.
Thank you in advance.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
Unfortunately, I have heard that you do not have access to the data from the wireless modem (unless PaleRider or one of our other hardware experts has figured out how to get it - PR has taken more machines apart and put them back together than most of us have owned). That means that you'll either have to use Sleepyhead or ResScan and read the card on your computer for more data than you can get from the machine display. This isn't as difficult as you may think it is. We have a lot of Sleepyhead experts on the forum who can walk you through the process.

The patient interface for looking at data on Resmed machines is called "MyAir" You can learn more about it by going to: http://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/ai ... myair.htmlRenee784 wrote: I'm wondering if there is someway I can view this data online (I know my machine has some type of internet connection; I can see the green bars in the upper righthand corner). You do have to register for the site. And since I am not a user of a Resmed AirSense A10 machine, I don't really know anything about the MyAir site. It may or may not give you a bit more information than what you are getting off the A10's LCD. I also don't know if using MyAir requires you to take the SD card out of the machine, but since MyAir only works with the A10s and not the older S9s, I suspect that you won't have to take the SD card out of your machine to use the MyAir site.
Good luck

Neat - I didn't realize that was a free service - I thought it was something that you had to register for through a DME. As usual, you are correct
The information that MyAir provides is very limited, but it might satisfy Renee's needs.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
as Robysue pointed out, there is that website available, but it's only summary data... because, at least according to the docs, the cell modem only transmits summary data. the only way to get the detail data is off the card.Nick Danger wrote:Unfortunately, I have heard that you do not have access to the data from the wireless modem (unless PaleRider or one of our other hardware experts has figured out how to get it -
now, you could use a wifi card, and sleepmaster to avoid messing with the card.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciated the help. I did signup for "MyAir" on the ResMed website last night (I found it after my posting my question), and I logged into it this morning. It is definitely very rudimentary. It does track daily information, so I can see, for example, a bar graph of my usage hours, events per hour, mask seal and amount of times the mask came off/on on a day-by-day basis (not just an average, which is all that is shown on the LCD), which I guess is kind of nice (mostly the events per hour). And then there is an overall "MyAir Score" that they probably use some type of strange algorithm to derive, so I really don't care about that. What's not shown, however, and what I'd really like to be able to track day-by-day, is my AHI.
If I got a wifi card, how does this "sleepmaster" thing work? I've seen a lot about SleepyHead on this site and I think all that data would just be overwhelming. Alternatively, how does ResScan work? Is it the same as SleepHead?
Thanks again for all the responses. As I said, I'm new to the CPAP world. I've been lurking on this website for a couple weeks now and you're all very helpful.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
ResScan gives you the same data points that SleepyHead will give you but just presents them visually in a different format.
Here's a little tutorial that I think will show you some examples of what the reports look like
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/resscan_tutorial/ Tutorial
SleepyHead does offer a lot of different data points but you don't have to put everything under the microscope if you don't want to.
It will give you an overview graph of the AHI...if that's what you want.
You can turn off unneeded graphs if you don't want to mess with looking at them.
My routine for when I want to view my reports...I look at the daily graph mainly and first thing I do is glance at AHI and the leak graph. If both look good that's all I do. I don't bother with the other stuff unless I spot something odd on the events graph.
Takes about 2 seconds.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
sleepmaster is a program that one of our forum members put together to use the toshiba flashair wifi sd card to enable you to pull the data off the machine with wifi, and then use sleepyhead or resscan.Renee784 wrote:If I got a wifi card, how does this "sleepmaster" thing work?
personally, I think resscan is for masochists, it's much harder to use than sleepyhead is.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
IMO, statistic reports like these are simpler and meaningful, done by ResScan for Resmed machines, but you need to insert the SD Card into a laptop. As you progress with your treatment you can expand the periods, up to one year :

In 2015 my usage (and sleep time) are less than in prior years b/c I urinate more often during the nights. I started to use a bedside commode.

it's always good to see someone offering the alternate view, speaking for the minority, as it wereavi123 wrote:IMO, statistic reports like these are simpler and meaningful, ... I started to use a bedside commode.

Re: New to CPAP: Qs about viewing data
Thank you Pugsy for linking the tutorial and Avi for posting some ResScan screen shots. I actually think I prefer the look of this to the SleepyHead screen shots I've seen. I just want to see the numbers - all those graphs in SleepyHead would freak me out. I could see myself staring at them for hours trying to determine what one little spike meant and having absolutely no idea.
Like PR said, it's good to see others' points of view. I would have never even know about ResScan, so thank you!
