When do you check your Data?

Post by Day_Dreamer » Wed Aug 06, 2014 12:16 pm

Hi.

I had been checking my Data every morning since the start of CPAP. On those days where it exceeded 4, I thought I was able to detect the physical affects of breeching a 4. I would come to work and think I had a bad night, my head really hurts. I have found this to be all in my mind as recently I stopped checking in the morning and could not accurately predict my results base on how I felt. I tried for a few weeks to predict when I broke the mild apnea barrier of 4. Some days I was sure I had a 4-6 on my machine only to find I had a 2. Other days I was clear headed and swore I would see a 2 or less only to find a 7.

So when do you check your data?

If you check it at night can you accurately predict what kind of sleep you had the previous night based on how you feel?

I check my data in the morning, but I never attempt to assess what my numbers might be. Once I see the numbers, they will sometimes give me a clue about my night.. sometimes not.

I glance at the LCD screen every AM. Usually I can tell before I look if I had a good night or not. Every 7-10 days I download the data to Sleepyhead.
As long as my AHI is below 5, I don't worry about it. Usually I run 1-3 AHI

How high is a bad night for you?

Say you recorded an AHI of 6, would you be able to tell prior to checking that you've exceeded the threshold into Mild sleep apnea? Or do you really need to have a bad night (above 10)?

One night doesn't matter...Every now and then I have a restless night and maybe wake up 2-3 times. I know that I will have a bunch of CAs and will probable have an AHI of 4-5. It deesn't matter as long as I know why my AHI was higher than normal. I really don'y need to look at Sleepyhead every day. I have been on CPAP long to know when I have a problem. Even if I had a night of AHI 10....I wouldn't make any changes unless it persisted.

Every day when I was getting started and working on my leak rate.

Once my leak rate was good i stopped checking the data each morning because i found myself in a situation where if the results were not great then I'd be telling myself I'm going to have a bad day, which is not good. Paying attention to results and how I felt as soon as i woke made me feel anxious about the day ahead.

I download my data every couple of weeks. More often if something is going on. I used to like a feature on sleepyhead where it told you your best results and what the pressure settings were and on what day. I've re-installed the latest version and I don't see that anymore.

Good luck

I check my data every morning before I start my day. That way I know how to act.
Last week I felt really good when I got up, after loaded my data in SleepyHead and seen my AHI was almost 6, I immediately
felt terrible and went back to bed.

I wish you well ...

it'll be back... it's in the current dev version.

fwiw, I typically look at mine in the evening. before I started working from home, I never had time in the morning to mess with it, even looking at the screen wasn't on the menu.

Can you predict what it will be based on how you felt all day?

Ie.. My head hurt all day... I must've had a bad night.

never tried... don't feel there's that much of a correlation besides, my days are usually < 2

I did have an 8 over the weekend, but that was because I had a fever and felt like crap and was napping on and off, poorly, all day long.

did I feel like crap because of cpap badness, or did I have cpap badness because I felt like crap? who's to say, I don't care enough to try and work it out myself

Just completed 7 days with a data capable machine so I'm all amped up about the technology that's come along since I began therapy in 2001 with the same machine all the years. I look at the data every evening before bedtime. Happy to say I've never seen an AHI greater than 1.47 and lowest so far is .12. Basically what I've felt I've known all these years that I'm dialed in fairly well.

I check my data weekly. My therapy is pretty stable (average AHI for the past year is 0.47 per Sleepyhead). I know I'm going to have the occasional bad night but I'm not too worried about them. I'm more looking for trends over the longer term.

Pretty similar here too. I check the screen when I get up, mostly interested in the number of hours. I have a hard time using it all night, and sometimes my perception of the hours will be totally off. I may think I used it most of the night when I didn't, or the opposite, that I only got a couple hours, but really got 4 or 5 hours. My ahi is usually under 2, often under 1. It is very rare to go above 2 (maybe 4 or 5 times above 3 since i started over 2 years ago). Since my ahi is always low, it is more about number of hours for me. A night of 5 hours all with cpap is better than a 7 hour night with only 3 hours on cpap. And of course, a 7+ hour night with cpap is awesome. So, I am always pleased to see a good number of hours.

It also makes a difference if that was solid or fragmented. So, there are several factors that can produce a good or bad day. So, what I see on the screen is only one factor.

When it comes to looking at data, I usually wait until evening, when I have more time, and not all that often anymore. Sometimes, it is just to check on trends. Sometimes, I had a weird night, and I wonder if it will show anything. Like a bad dream, or asthma attack.

I check mine in the evening about 2 times a week.

AHI has been less than 1 for more than a year now. All I tend to watch is leak levels and flow interruptions these days.

I check my data weekly.

You can feel poorly in the morning because your head straps are on too tight and other reasons.

I don't find AHI particularly useful. You can be having other sleep problems which aren't recognized as AHI, such as RERA's.
