ASV SleepyHead Pressure Wave question

Post by photonic » Mon Aug 04, 2014 8:05 am

Good Morning. I have been looking at the pressure graphs in SleepyHead and am confused by the multitude of lines on the pressure graph. The colored key tells me that there is a line for MaxIPAP, IPAP, and MinIPAP as well as EPAP. I am on an ASV machine.

Now since there can only be one pressure used at a time, why at any point along the graph are all three IPAP values listed? I think there must be something basic here that I do not understand. Thanks for help.

Just speculation:

It seems that what is being reported is not the actual pressure but the four settings that control pressure at any one time.
So if you are inhaling at that particular time, the lines for Max IPAP and min IPAP tell you the range permissible while the IPAP and EPAP lines show the actual pressures that would apply.

Just a thought as I haven't spent much time delving into the details of how SleepyHead reports the "down in the weeds" details.

SleepyHead gurus may have a better and possibly correct explanation that differs.

The pressure graphs are calculated and updated every 2 minutes. During that two minutes you would have say 25 breaths and each breath would have a different IPAP as the machine changes the pressure on a breath by breath basis. The graphs are the maximum IPAP, mean IPAP and minimum IPAP during those 25 different breaths. If you look at the 'mask pressure' graph and zoom in you can see the pressure applied for each individual breath. The mask pressure graph will also be needed to help analyse your therapy in more detail when the time comes.

Hope this helps
Ian

Wow, Soooooo helpful. Thanks for that explanation - makes sense!

Interestingly my SH does not display a graph for "mask pressure" even when selected for display. It only will display "pressure" and when zooming into an individual breath on the "flow rate" then the corresponding spot on the "pressure" graph still shows all fours lines. Thoughts.

Thanks again for a great response.

i have noticed the same thing, jedimark may help more with this... with SleepyHead v0.9.6 (testing) i get the mask pressure graph and with the newer broken gl version I did not... in both I had mask pressure marked but could never get the mask pressure to show in the broken gl version...

What version do you have?

mask pressure on the prs1 is broken, but fixed in the latest beta verisons... so you'll get it when the next version comes out.
